Can't sleep. Also my child RN isn't sleeping, which means I must be watchful.

RN is a KS2 child (older end of primary school) who has entirely crumbled during this pandemic.

I still support lockdown.

Here's why the Kids Mental Health argument against lockdown is nonsense:

First, let's establish I know what I am talking about.

RN stands for Roadside Naughtiest because prior to Covid happening, RN was happy, fun, lively, kind, brave, thoughtful, popular and always up to something (not always within the rules).

Cheeky RN was a joy to know.

2/

Lockdown happened and my baby fell apart. Really, really fell apart. The difference was night and day.

It turns out RN may have ADHD always, but a solid routine & cosy space within the van we lived in, and vast amounts of outdoor excercise every single day, managed it well.

The last couple of weeks has been a bit crazy.

Reflecting on it, some things spring out for me, so I thought I would do what I do, and make a little thread about it...

1/

Apparently, almost no one in the media even went to a normal state school, let alone has personal experience of deprivation. That lack of experience is a massive factor in how the narrative is shaped. They honestly, truly, can not and do not understand us, or even know us.

2/

The situation in the nation's corporate boardrooms and in the corridors of power aren't much different. Exceptions of course exist, but those individuals seem to be rarities.

Fair to say those groups don't know us either and for the most part they aren't trying to.

So if you missed it last night, let me fill you in.

It transpires that even long since Chartwells knew, beyond doubt, that this was their "hamper", and even after they started "apologising" to me in private, they cast doubt on my integrity where they thought I wouldn't see.

Well of course I did see, didn't I.

So to be abundantly clear:

1. I have written proof it was a TEN day parcel. @BylineTimes published it. Other outlets saw it for due diligence.

2. It was presented in a basic, not very strong, white carrier bag.

3. Chartwells knew that it was their parcel and that the photo was entirely accurate. Chartwells knew my school early last week and they were able to confirm the incident through their own staffing chains. How do I know? They told me.

What a stunningly out of touch list of threats. Let's address them shall we, why not. Then after we are done addressing them let's signal-boost the actual issue.

Have you heard this @BootstrapCook? "Ken" thinks you do my thinking for me. That's not very complimentary to my own abilities is it "Ken".

3. I believe my children and I have a right to a private family life. CHILD SAFETY is why I protect that. I'd quite like that private family life back at the end.

Were I to lose that, I would have an involuntary permenant platform. You want to make campaigning a career for me?

Within minutes of saying I am done with Chartwells bullshit & hit breakpoint, I am getting screenshot-trolled for any time I said I was drinking over Christmas. (Wowee, what a scandal) It's a tactic. It's called playing the man not the ball. Happens all the time in politics.

Not only do they think I'm stupid. They think you're all stupid. They (the collective, nebulous *they*) think you are all stupid. They think a screenshot of me mentioning gin somehow means the story about fatcat profits scraped from the tables of 1.4m kids on FSM won't matter

2/

This story ain't goin' nowhere Darlin'. I could delete my account, vanish off the face of the Earth tomorrow and Chartwells will still headline for weeks yet.

The more damage I sustain, the worse Chartwells look. Because we can all see who's interest this serves.

I've been speaking with Charlie Brown, Managing Director at @Chartwells_UK over the last few days.

I've been losing my patience a bit. It's not been as quick as I wanted, but we are here now. Some of this was organised today, some is from other days but here's a round up:

Over the February school holiday, if there is no Government funding for #FreeSchoolMeals, at all the schools @Chartwells_UK is working in, Charlie commits to putting out boxes anyway.

So if @BorisJohnson @RishiSunak & @GavinWilliamson won't step up by then, Charlie will.

From now, the school lunches boxes from @Chartwells_UK, are also going to cover breakfast as well. Chartwells will take the extra costs associated on the chin. They are fully aware they need to do better, and this is something we both feel is positive. (That was his idea).
