Brother Joseph, The Judge and DNA: May Our Loyalty Not Be Tested

I think the most under-rated character in the Bible is Joseph. Yes, Joseph the husband of Mary and the ‘father’ of Jesus. I don’t believe he got his due acknowledgment.
I think his role in the birth of Jesus and upbringing has not been given the right credits. During Christmas, we talk about the wise men. We talk about the shepherds who watched their flocks by night. We talk about the angels who appeared to the shepherds.
We talk about Mary and rightfully so. We talk about the Baby Jesus. We even compose songs for all of them. We hardly talk about Joseph and I’ve never heard of any song composed for the dude. It’s almost as if there’s a ‘conspiracy’ of silence to ‘edge’ him out of the picture.
I think Brother Joseph is the real star of the whole story. I preached a message at Christmas and my focus was Joseph. I called him the man who protected Christmas. That dude does not belong here.
I’ve looked at the power of his example and I’ve asked myself many times: Can I do what he did? Sincerely, I’m not sure. His story makes a portion of the Lord’s Prayer so real to me: Lord, lead us not into temptation.
The more I read his story, the less judgmental I become about so many things. How will you react when life throws a pot of beans at you? Don’t be too sure you know how. That’s why we need to pray for grace.
Consider this: Mary was betrothed to Joseph. That means they were in courtship to be married. Possibly dated for a few years. Family and friends knew about their relationship. But they had never been intimate and then Mary fell pregnant.
If you were Joseph, what would you do? What will your reaction be? What do you do when you feel the person you loved betrayed you? If the woman now told you she never had sex with anyone, would you believe her? Tell that to the marines. Her excuses don’t make any sense.
Joseph was between the devil and the deep blue sea. Torn between extreme emotions- love and a sense of betrayal.

He didn’t go to social media. If he did, he would have been justified. He could have ‘dragged’ Mary. He had every right too and the mob would have feasted.
Mary would have trended for days. Under the law, she would have been stoned. To death. Joseph made a tough choice. A very tough one. That choice couldn’t have come easy. Maybe he had sleepless nights, turning and tossing from one part of the bed to another.
He finally decided that he would just let her leave quietly- without exposing her. He waived his right to call her out. Love triumphed over judgment. The real proof of love is when you know you have every right to be angry but you choose to forgive.
I believe this quality of Joseph was why God chose him above every male that time. His role was so important he was carefully selected-just like Mary. God needed a virgin. God needed a good man too.
The Bible described Joseph as a just man. Dude was good. So good he had angelic visitations 4 times within 2 chapters.

It takes a good man to know that though the woman was not carrying his pregnancy but yet choose to still go ahead to marry her.
Ok. It took an angel to tell him not to be afraid to take on his wife. I’m not sure an angel can convince me to do that. “Brother Gabriel, shuo, make you sef think am now. Ko le werk. My mumu don do”. That’s what I would have said.
Not only that, he didn’t copulate with her until she put to bed. You marry someone but then can’t touch her for almost 9 months? You can’t even ‘enter’ small? What a sacrifice!

Keep Your Mouth Shut

Now after this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant, and for five months she secluded herself completely....
Luke 1:24 AMP

That was the Scripture the Lord gave me when my wife became pregnant after 8 years of waiting.
I felt like rolling out the drums but that Scripture kept me. I told myself, “People celebrate babies and not pregnancies”. So my wife and I spoke to our Pastor’s wife about our conviction. I still remember her counsel till date. She asked us to take pictures during the pregnancy
Then I told just one person from my own side- my junior sister. My wife informed only one person from her own side- her own sister. Both people were under strict instructions not to divulge the information to anyone. I didn’t inform any of my parents neither did she.

TO MY DAUGHTER KIKIOPE AT 10

My adorable daughter,

How time flies! It looked like yesterday when I sat in front of the theatre with Mo Fatokun eagerly anticipating your arrival on that Wednesday. I had butterflies in my stomach even as I tried to look calm outwardly.
My knees were knocking and as I prayed under my breath, I felt sweat dropping from my brows.

My heart beat faster and I felt my hands suddenly become clammy. With every opening of the door, I got up to see what was happening.
As nurses ran helter-skelter, I tried to keep my emotions under control. After waiting for what seemed like centuries, a doctor stepped out to announce the good news of your arrival.

A young guy approached me to mentor him. I agreed. A short while after, he asked me for money. I declined. The next day, I sent him some personal development initiatives. He never responded till date.
I became friends here with a lady. I would later meet her at an event in Abuja. She eulogized me and told me she would love me to mentor her. I told her I don't mentor ladies as a matter of principle. She requested for my personal contact details so she could stay in touch.
I obliged. By the time we concluded the event, she came back to meet me and gave me a funny story about an emergency trip she had to make. Long story short, she asked for money. I declined. I was shocked at her audacity. Thereafter, I noticed her negative remarks on my posts.

HOW TO CREATE YOUR WORLD IN SEVEN DAYS

Dear Team,

It's been my first week with the team and what a week it has been. We had a fantastic strategy session and people gave commitments with boldness. And some are making it good already.
But quite a number are nowhere near their commitments. Fortunately, there is still one more week to go. What is the value of one week? What can be done in one week?
In one week, God created the heaven and the earth and all that is in it- including man. That's huge. The stars, the moon, the sun, trees, all animals, the various type of fishes, flora and fauna in one week and even took a day off to rest. How did He do it? I think I have an idea

The Law of the Value Chain

I was at a courier company on Saturday to send out a parcel to Abuja. This courier company actually started out as a transport company with buses going to different destinations in Nigeria.
Overtime, people sent parcels through the drivers to different destinations. The company saw an opportunity and started a courier and logistics company.
As the very courteous staff of the courier company attended to me, I saw her bring out different cartons to pack the items I was sending out. Several parcels were everywhere packed in those cartons.

Fighting Ourselves When We Should Be Fighting Them

In support of Jimi Agbaje during the 2015 elections, I produced 2 jingles as my contribution. I wanted him to win.
So, through the assistance of a friend of mine who is a PDP stalwart, we were directed to handover the CDs to a PDP Chieftain in Lagos. The PDP Chieftain asked us to meet him at a club house around Palmgrove. It was a Sunday evening.
When we arrived, we passed through security checks. The club house was guarded by mobile policemen. On entering, the PDP Chieftain was seated with company. Right opposite him was a friend with company also. All of them were having drinks.
