New details here about a long meeting in the GOP steering committee about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s future, per multiple sources.

- The GOP Steering Committee has NOT made a decision yet on whether to strip her from her committee assignments and will meet again tomorrow.
- Kevin McCarthy did not weigh in one way or the other on what he thought should be done.
- McCarthy met with Greene, but she didn’t meet with Steering. In relaying how meeting with Greene went, McCarthy gave NO indication Greene showed remorse or contrition for past comments
- While there’s a belief that she should off her two committees among the GOP members, there’s a concern about punishing members for things they did before winning their election.
- There’s also concern about the precedent it would set if Dems strip her assignments in floor vote

The No. 2 House Republican, Steve Scalise, said this to me when asked if Marjorie Taylor Greene should lose her commiteee spots. “Look we're gonna be talking about all this in conference tomorrow,” he said, adding he still hadn’t spoken with Kevin McCarthy.
Asked if he had any concerns over her views, Scalise said to me: “I’ve been very very vocal about that.”
Scalise may be referring to his past criticism of Greene during last year’s primary, though he ultimately set aside those concerns after she won her runoff. cnn.com/2020/09/16/pol…

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are still haggling over final details on a power-sharing agreement. They are debating in part committee budgets, per multiple sources
The issue has a real impact because Democrats can’t chair the committees until the Senate passes new rules for this Congress. Otherwise they will operate under last Congress’ rules when the Senate GOP had the majority and controlled the committees.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, who is still chairing Senate Judiciary until the agreement is approved, defended his refusal to schedule a hearing for Garland as attorney general.

What’s clear after a call between the WH and Democratic senators: There’s no desire to pare back the $1.9 trillion relief bill or break it up into smaller pieces, per several Democratic senators.
“There's not a lot of reason to believe that this place is equipped to pass a big package in parts and it's just unrealistic to think that it could get done that way,” Chris Murphy just told me.
When asked if he thought the dollar amount of the proposal would change, Van Hollen said: “I do not, I think you’ll see some change in the mix of certain amounts here and there.”

Schumer wants trial to start week of Feb. 8, per source familar. He’s about to announce on floor
Here’s the pre-trial schedule McConnell and Schumer agreed to, per a source familiar.
7p Monday the House will bring the article over to the Senate, per Schumer. Members will be sworn in Tuesday, Jan. 26. Then there will be a period of time to draft legal briefs. During that period, the Senate will work on nominations, he said. Then trial will begin Feb. 8 week
