ICYMI: Superhero fans around the world have spent the past 4 weeks obsessing over #WandaVision - and we’re no different ✨ To get the lowdown on how the show was made, we spoke with showrunner Jac Shaeffer 👇
First up, we asked about the challenge of bringing #WandaVision to life, she said: "We had a lot of goals. There were a lot of different levels. When I think about the early stages of breaking it – I remember a lot of headaches, and just being like, 'How do we hold this all in?'
"We had so many different systems and color coding and formats to make it all work. And the decision-making of what's too much? What's gilding the lily? What's not enough? All of those early development decisions are really hard." 💪
Those weren’t the only worries though! Shaeffer was also nervous about fan reactions to #WandaVision😬 "You know what? I was worried" she admitted.
"I was so in for the process of it, but I was so nervous that it wouldn't be warmly received. I was nervous that people might turn away from it, or be confused, or their patience would wear thin."
Speaking specifically about complaints around the pace of #WandaVision, Shaeffer said "Yeah, I understand it. I was worried about that, especially because Marvel fans show up with an expectation, and we are bucking that expectation [laughs] quite a bit."
"So now, here we are [after the fourth episode] and people are still interested. There aren't words. I'm sort of bouncing off the walls. I'm so happy about it." 🙌
One of the things we loved the most about #WandaVision episode 4 was the reintroduction of Dr. Darcy Lewis and Agent Jimmy Woo 😍 But how did that happen?
Shaeffer told us "[Marvel has its] ideas and larger interconnecting pieces. So, there were characters that were suggested to me – a larger list of characters. With Randall Park and @OfficialKat, I was like: that's an excuse to work with two people I admire so, so, so much."
"I've worked on other Marvel properties before, and it's always like, 'Here are some ideas. Does this work? Does this not work?' Everything needs to have a reason in order to be there, right?"... #Wandavision
