HUMAN TRAFFICKING IS A SOCIETAL MENACE THAT REQUIRES SOCIETY COLLABORATION………..SAYS NAPTIP DG
Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, has described grassroots awareness creation campaign,
comprehensive society collaboration and robust partnership as major counter trafficking strategies that will help to boost the fight against human trafficking in the Country. She stated this today in her office while receiving a delegation from the
International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and Netherland who paid a courtesy visit to her.
The Director General who expressed happiness over the existing collaboration and well – thought out projects being jointly executed between the Agency and the ICMPD
described Human Trafficking as a major societal menace that required comprehensive action from all stakeholders.
She used the opportunity to reel out her vision for the Agency which included spreading to States and the unreached regions of the Country in order to reduce the
vulnerability of the people, savaging victims of human trafficking through well informed messages before being recruited for exploitation among others.
The Director General called for speedy take – off of the outlined projects saying that time is of great essence in the fight
against human trafficking.
She thanked the due of the ICMPD and the Netherlands Government for their collaboration and support to the Agency and requested for the detailed project documents in order to be fully abreast with the contents and conditions of such projects.
Earlier in
her speech, the Head of Office, West Africa of ICMPD, Mrs. Mojisola Sodeinde, has briefed the Director General on the existing projects being supported in the fight against human trafficking which are the Infusion of Human Trafficking in School Curriculum in the Country as well
as the Nigeria – Niger anti human trafficking collaboration project.
She assured of the sustained support to the Agency.
COURT SENTENCES 3 WOMEN IN LAGOS FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING
•The criminal trial in FHC/133/2017, came to an end on 29th January,2021 with the sentencing of the three defendants, all of whom were charged for contravening Section 23(1)(b) of TIPEA, 2015.
• They were all found guilty in counts 1-5 of the charge, but exculpated in count 6. The punishment attracts a minimum term of 2years, but not exceeding 7years.without option of fine. However, following plea of allocutus and the present Covid-19 pandemic, they were
sentenced to 6 months’ imprisonment to run concurrently from the time they were arrested in March,2015, hence they went home thereafter.
•The Director General lauded the efforts of the Judiciary in ensuring that justice is secured, and urged victims to report cases of human
NAPTIP TO PARTNER WITH NSCDC IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING
The Zonal commander NAPTIP SOKOTO ZONAL COMMAND paid a curtsey visit to the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil defense Corps(NSCDC), Sokoto Command on Thursday,4th February,2021 together with management staff
of the COMMAND.
The ZONAL COMMANDER MR MITIKA MAFA ALI, reiterate the existing working relationship between the two organizations and urge the NSCDC to continue with the effective and efficient synergy that already exists between us.
In his response, the Commandant promise to
work with NAPTIP in combating human trafficking in the state, he also promised to always be there whenever we knock at their door. He also promised to appoint a desk officer for NAPTIP.

In the past we’ve never collaborated in any area so that we build a partnership in the areas of financial investigation and asset recovery and in terms of training.
In his response, the Chairman thanked congratulated the Director General on her appointment he also said he has

COURTS JAIL A MIDDLE AGE SEXUAL OFFENDER IN SOKOTO
The sledge hammer of justice fell heavily on a heartless middle aged sex offender in Nigeria as High Court in Sokoto State have convicted him for sexual exploitation of a minor of age 9. The High Court in Sokoto presided over
by Honourable Justice Muhammad Muhammad slammed the convict, Aminu Ibrahim with a 4 year imprisonment.
The convict was dragged before the Court by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). It would be recalled that the Director General of the
Agency, Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, had promised hell for human traffickers and all categories of sex offenders in the Country saying that the Agency was ready to seriously contend with them.
COURT JAILS MIDDLE AGE MAN FOR TRAFFICKING A JOB SEEKER
A Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State capital presided over by Honourable Justice T. B Adegoke, has convicted a middle aged man Frank Israel for trafficking a 22 years old job seeker, Anthony Francis to Europe
for labour exploitation thereby violating the provisions of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement Act 2015 as amended.
The convict was arraigned in Court by the Benin Zonal Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP)
following his arrest by the men of the Asaba Division of the Nigeria Police in 2020.
In the case No. FHC/ASB/ 35c/ 2020, Investigation revealed that sometimes in 2017, the convict recruited the victim one Anthony Francis on the promise of smuggling him to Europe at the payment
