Yesterday, I had to work late night. Something very emotional happened and it broke my heart for the stray cattle. At around 1:30 AM when I left the desk for some time to walk around I noticed an ox standing outside. He is not regular but was looking inside.
By the time I picked food for him and went out, he was gone, but I could see him from far. I called him. He turned and literally ran back. After feeding him some carrots and jaggary and when he was calmer than the moment he started eating, I came close and saw his face.
I could notice the tears. I am assuming those were tears of joy because he managed to get food at that hour of night. Last time when he came he got scared by just a loud noise. I had to calm him down and step back so that he could eat.
I am not sure if visits every night but I am definitely going to leave something on the wall for him. Every cattle that visits our home for food know we won't hit them and if we see anyone causing trouble, we will come to save them.
They come, call for food, take their share and go. Even today, when the smaller one, Chotu, was bullied by an older cow, he ran towards me and not away. He almost hid behind me as if he was asking me to save him and of course I did. He knows I call him chotu.
Yesterday eve, someone came for delivery. One of the elder cows, bhuro, thought he had food so she started walking towards him and scared him. I called her and said, "Bhuro ruk ja. De raha hun khana tujhe. Khabardaar ek kadam bhi aage badaya to" and she stopped!
I talk to them. Show them I care. Give them love and as much food as financially possible for me. They know they will find love and food at my place and I am happy I am able to serve them. They are intelligent and understand what I say.
Mom had always said "jiski roti jidhar likhi hoti hai, aur jiske haath se jiska khana likha hota hai, bhagwan koi na koi unko milane ka raasta bana hi deta hai." So till I have to shift from this place, these 10 stray cattle (that started with 2) will have me as their family.
Thank you all for appreciating the thread. I think I should introduce to all my fav beings one by one 🙂 Meet Bhuro. She is one of the elders.
Meet Kaalo. She is one of the elders and most aggressive. 😂
Meet chotu alias Kanha. The youngest and the naughtiest. the other day he forgot where I live. He was standing in middle of the road making loud calls. Mom noticed and went outside and called "chotu" and he literally came hopping and running. 😍
Meet Nandi Maharaj. He has his own herd who follows him if he comes out of the plot where they live. He is not regular visitor. A very large yet calm one. You have to give him respect of you want to feed him. Else he will reject the food.
BTW we also have birds and squirrels too. No no... not as pets. Just like cows. Daily visitors 🙂
Meet Giri. This is the one who came late night and inspired the thread. We named him Giri for obvious reasons. If he had been a feet more in height, I am sure I might have just jumped over the wall 😂
