In 2019, I invested in a property that has now appreciated by almost £40,000 (N26M) in just 2 years. Currently, I am in talks with a very good friend of mine about buying another rental property (a flat) worth £175,000 in an area populated by students.
For upwardly mobile professionals, real estate is generally a great investment option. It can help generate passive income on a yearly basis. It can also be a fantastic long-term investment if you buy in a great location and the value increases overtime like mine has done.
Investing in real estate can help you build wealth. You can make profit through rental income (people will always need a place to live) and appreciation of the value of the property.
I got on the property ladder by saving smartly. So, that N100K or N300K you spend in clubs almost every weekend or that N75K you blow in restaurants or on wigs or that N600K on a new phone can be saved, then, invested in getting a property😊
Real estate consistently increases in value over time and outperforms other forms of investment. For example, while stocks are a well-known investment option, investing in real estate is considered more rewarding because it has the potential for substantial appreciation.

Last year, I was invited to a panel on Human Capital and Workforce Productivity by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) in Abuja.
I remember vividly that the NESG noted in one of their main working papers that Nigeria’s economic prosperity depends largely on strategically identifying specific industries with a competitive advantage to unleash economic opportunities and fast-track economic development.
