Rights for Residents was set up by Jenny&Diane in Sept last year because after a heartbreaking visits to Jenny's mum they decided enough was enough & decided to do something - there was no other campaigning - this is a sample of what they have achieved
They set up a FB page and then the petition which now has over 200,000 signatures on it change.org/p/please-let-m… - it is never too late to sign
As momentum built so did the profile - first came @ExpressGilo who kicked the campaign into the headlines
and still is working tirelessly with us today
Visit our website - thank you @MulberryDesign and Join the campaign - fighting and campaigning for ALL in CARE #essentialfamilycarer #rightsforresidents

rightsforresidents.co.uk
then @eleanorhayward and the daily mail joined the fight and made it their Christmas Campaign
we have also had coverage and support from many others @allisonpearson @JuliaHB1 @PaulBrandITV @GMB @thismorning @JayneMcCubbinTV @_alicebeer to name but few - our members have been on every channel - sharing their stories - we thank them
we have had articles in the Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Mirror and more - we have organised regional and national radio interviews, appeared on all major news channels and have joined forces with fellow campaigners @ChrScotland @JohnCampaign @JulieannNally @relresuk
we have a campaign video -
rightsforresidents.co.uk/video/ a poem to @MattHancock
@georgegallmusic recorded a song for us - sadly some of those in the photographs are no longer with us but we will always remember them
we are supported by @julesstorr who we thank for open letters, we speak regularly with care home mangers who are doing all they can @donnapierpoint @AdamDPurnell @BunterDawn @_mark_topps @saralivadeas - it is always important to speak to everyone and hear all sides
@RuthieHenshall has joined the campaign and is sharing her story - thank you #rightsforresidents
express.co.uk/celebrity-news…
We thought there was hope when we were all told we could hug our loved ones at Christmas and a #pointlesspilot was launched in 20 homes that came to - nothing - most did not even get a visit let alone a hug express.co.uk/news/uk/136361…
we have had meetings with Ministers, MPs, Government Advisors, the CQC, NCF, our members have had meetings with councillors, local authorities, local public health authorities, care home mangers and other campaigns -
we have the support of @leicesterliz who is doing all she can to help us - along with @HarrietHarman and others on the @HumanRightsCtte to get #essentialfamilycarer enshrined to law
we are not a national charity, we do not get government funding, we do not have a CEO, a large campaign & media team or any employees, just passionate members working together who want to see their loved ones. We do rely on donations gofundme.com/f/Cant-smile-w…
we still need your help - this must not be made a political point scoring issue - these are our loved ones and their right to live life as they should wish, seeing their families, get the best care and love they deserve, young or old - those in care need to live and love
What can you do to help us, continue what you have been doing, sharing, talking, speaking with your political representatives, shouting from the roof tops about our campaign and what we are doing, donate if you can - together we will all make a difference for now and the future
you can buy t'shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, teddies and more - all in the name of #rightsforeresidents
rightsforresidents.bigcartel.com/?fbclid=IwAR3S…
As families with loved ones in care we have been let down many times from last July, by gov, by selective reading of guidance, by LAs, by the PH, by those that are meant to support us, but we will not stop - we are their voice, we are their memories - we are #rightsforresidents

We are so grateful to @RuthieHenshall for speaking up today about her personal experiences and about our campaign calling for emergency legislation to enshrine, in law, the rights of care home residents to have proper access to their #essentialfamilycarers ...(1)
Here is @RuthieHenshall speaking so courageously on @BBCr4today about her family’s story and the suffering & deterioration she has witnessed in her own beloved Mum, who has dementia and has been isolated from her family for almost a year....(2)
Ruthie also spoke on @BBCBreakfast about her family’s pain as they are left unable to support her Mum. As Ruthie pointed out, every other member of society has been given the right to a support bubble yet those in care homes have endured almost a year of enforced separation...(3)

Christmas has been & gone, we are in a new year but it is all sounding & feeling very similar to where we were. This time we are ready. We are hurt, we are saddened but we are standing up for what matters and we are united with one aim to see our loved ones #rightsforresidents
Over the last week there has been a lot of anger & frustration building up. Will our loved ones get a vaccine, many still haven’t, goal posts get moved, &the gap widens between 1st/2nd vaccine, will it change the visiting guidance, will we ever see them again,no one will answer!
We hear that Covid+patients are to be discharged into care homes, again. There is a plan, does anyone know it? Where are these designated homes, how will they be managed, will staff be completely separate&where are they coming from?will our loved ones be safe? Can this happen again?

73.The Royal College of Nursing were concerned about the impact of high nurse vacancy rates on nurses and the quality of care:
“There are not enough registered nurses and healthcare support workers to deliver safe and effective care in adult social care settings such as nursing homes and residential care homes
Registered nurses report working unpaid overtime to fill gaps, additional stress caused by a high-pressure environment, and describe occasions when vital care is left undone

"While I know many of you will be hard at work over the holiday season, I hope you also find time to rest, relax and reconnect safely with your families and friends." from @Helen_Whately Care Newsletter - how many care home families will be reconnected.....#rightsforresidents
"Thanks to effective stockpiling, we’re confident you won’t run out of aprons, masks, gloves and other essentials. What’s more, you can continue to order these and other items through the PPE portal, free of charge, until March 2021" hope all our care homes can confirm this
"The roll out of visitor testing in care homes has also been another milestone with the majority of homes reporting they are providing the service. This means many more residents, visitors and staff can share in the joy of these emotional reunions" - this is a straight lie

A month ago with a lot of fanfare @Helen_Whately, @MattHancock and @BorisJohnson announced with delight that we would all get to hug our loved ones again - the media were pushed out to watch a couple of lucky homes in the pilot scheme as they started testing relatives
and what have we learnt in that month - that Councils and Care Groups do not trust the tests. That screens are going up in care homes, that very few will even be allowed to visits let alone hug their loved ones this Christmas. Insurance is still a problem
That promises are made and then hopefully forgotten - but unlike many of our loved ones, young and old, who may not remember us any more we have not forgotten and will not forget. More #pointlesspilots are being done by councils - and so many still wait
