Saturday SCOOP: The man overseeing President Joe Biden's daily intelligence briefing previously advocated for the CIA’s false claims about its torture program to a powerful Senate committee.
Veteran CIA intel analyst Morgan Muir was one of Biden's briefers delivering the PDB. When we contacted ODNI about his role in defending CIA torture program the agency said he would not be at WH on a daily basis briefing Biden
Yesterday, ODNI said he wouldnt be at WH at all

The revelations about Muir's role leading a CIA team to defend the agency's response to the Senate Intel Committee's torture report has not been revealed before.
3/
.@DanielJJonesUS lead those meetings in 2013 on behalf of the Senate Intel Committee. He told @BuzzFeedNews Muir continued to defend the value of the torture program and the CIA's intel, citing information that the CIA would later publicly admit was inaccurate.
4/
“We would say, ‘Here’s a piece of paper. It is red. We can all see that it is red,’” Jones said. “And they would say, ‘No, it’s blue.’ ”
Muir "continued to double down on the false assertions,” Jones said.
5/
Muir did not respond to inquiries from BuzzFeed News. CIA spokesperson Timothy Barrett called Jones’ characterizations “baseless” and Muir “an exemplary career intelligence officer whose strength of character is unquestionable.”
.@RonWyden did not respond directly to questions about Muir. But in a statement to BuzzFeed News, he said, “The American people deserve transparency about the backgrounds of high-level intelligence officials who, besides directly briefing the President, work for the public.”
7/
Muir had already provided PDB to Biden
On Fri, ODNI ruled out presidential briefings altogether for Muir. “He is not the President’s briefer as that term is generally understood, and there are no plans for him to be in the oval"
ODNI didnt explain a reason for the change
8/
Muir has a new role: He is in be in charge of mission integration, which means he will be responsible for coordinating intelligence collection and analysis across multiple agencies. That includes overseeing the contents of the President’s Daily Brief.
9/
Former Sen. Mark Udall, who was an outspoken member of the Intel Committee expressed caution. He said Biden "should have serious concerns about entrusting his Presidential Daily Briefing to anyone who may have helped cover up this dark chapter in our nation's history."
10/10
ADDENDUM: The meetings between Muir & CIA analysts & Jones & other Senate Intel Committee staffers took place in the SCIF. Those meetings where Muir defended the CIA's torture intel despite being shown evidence they were wrong were recorded and stored in the committee's vault

NEW: I filed a #FOIA request with USPS Office of Inspector General to see what was happening at postal facilities around the country right around the presidential election.
This is Philadephia.

This is North Carolina. The USPS OIG investigated allegations political mail was tossed into a dumpster.
Last Sept, Politico reported that Trump appointees at HHS interfered with CDC reports on Covid (h/t @azeen)
I got the emails via #FOIA (quoted by Politico) laying bare the political interference by Trump's appointees.
Just stunning.
Just unreal. Controversial Trump appointee at HHS accusing the media of politicizing Covid as he demands agency officials politicizes agency's Covid response
"Several persons I know who are emergency room who are critical medicine physicians tell me that most of the patients they had in ICU who pass away were very obese and minority... "
The Freedom of Information Act is one of the most important tools in our reporting arsenal. Since 2017, my colleagues & I have forced the release of more than 40K docs & sued the govt 58 times. Last year, we spent $80K on #FOIA legal fees & we plan to spend $100K this year

"Pure chaos": US Park Police officers barricaded themselves inside the visitor center at the Washington Monument on Jan 6 to escape a mob of 150 protesters who furiously beat on the plate glass windows.
“People were screaming for help on the radio. It was pure chaos. It sounded like officers were constantly asking for help in certain areas and things were totally out of control,” one officer said.
Huddled inside with a man they had arrested, the dozen or so officers were eventually rescued by another group of Park Police who arrived on horseback and let them out a back door. Soon thereafter, an urgent call came in to send reinforcements to the Capitol building
