I don't pretend to know much about the mysteries, but it seems to me that there are two underlying and extreme premises in our debates about identity and gender, and they contradict each other, and all sides in some respect argue from both premises when it suits them.
On 1 hand, people argue as if each person is their own snowflake, w/their particular shade of whatever, hardened & solidified forever, & utterly unique, upon various spectrums or on one side or another of a binary, & they are wut they are & this cannot be changed much, if at all.
On other hand, people argue as if each person is pure potency, able to will into existence or choose whatever shade of whatever they desire to desire/become, w/no real constraints upon what they are since what they are is will/potential alone, open to infinite changes & choosing.
For all our talk about science & tolerance we cannot now have serious & candid conversations about what underlies vehement opinion on these issues: the underlying understanding of human nature that drives our opinions is obscured by blithering idiocy yelling tropes into the void.

The crazy thing about living through a regime change like this one is the combination of *denial* along with the increasing explicit justifications for oppression. The history books don’t tell you about all the people in willful denial as things escalated—who let it happen.
What keeps happening, over and over, are incidents with obvious parallels that reveal the nature of The Party now attempting to take complete control over America. To point out the obvious about it is to be fired and publicly reviled like @ginacarano.
Meanwhile, of course they can say the same about their opponents. That’s the point of all this: “we can protest & riot w/impunity—you cannot.” Only The Party can make Nazi references. Etc. But if you aren’t a member of The Party & in denial, at this point I assume it’s willful.

Political history is generally one, big cluster-F for all peoples. That used to be a big part of the point of learning it. So much of the insane and puritanical gibberish of the ongoing cultural revolution is born of deep historical ignorance, whatever it’s proponents claim.
If we wanted to go back in any history for 400 years and start assigning blame to descendants for the sins of the past...lol...the entire world would be at war. This is obvious. But, sadly, not to today’s blinkered ideologues. Who really know no history in this broader sense.
Reason it helps to study history outside one’s own is to allow one to see the traces of meta-history, or human nature and political life itself: replete as it is with similar tides and evils. We’ve robbed students of this. We’ve robbed elites of this. Now we get what we paid for.

NYT drama reads like a moronic parody TV show and I couldn’t care less in some ways. But perhaps we should care. Because while it deserves to implode this sort of work tribunal justice is now equipping itself with the power of the state.

Q takes psychological hold for the same reason that so many at the top are in deep pathological denial about what's happening to America now daily. It's hard to fathom. It's very painful to process & acknowledge America as you knew it is gone. People mentally retreat instead.
The American Mind today: people in the grip of revolutionary madness increasingly yammering about brutally punishing half their fellow citizenry, whom they hate, and others in a daze, clinging to the idea that none of this is or will or can be victorious...
Then we have leaders either cowed or in denial, unwilling to stand up to the top-down revolution that is almost complete and has begun firmly establishing a one party national state in which corporations, military, educational system, and entertainment complex work as one...

One possible silver lining is how many people, having never met a master bureaucrat operating at God-level, take a long time to realize what a slippery continuously calibrating eel of a man Fauci is. At this point in his life he makes it look easy b/c it’s all 2nd nature now.
These types constantly lie undetected by normal people, saying whatever they need to without any qualms. They can change in plain sight with absolute conviction since they have no shame and have long since lost the ability to comprehend why others would object.
Fauci doesn’t need to plot and plan and think through his rhetoric as a normal person would assume. He just does what he does by well-honed instinct, reading the scene as if by radar or the way an electric eel senses its surroundings and reacting accordingly.

Thread on a decaying world.

As the sectors of expertise built upon an outmoded framework for a now dead world hollow out, all people have left are thin bits they grasp ever more tightly. “No, only a JOURNALIST can conduct interviews!”; “But when WSB does it it’s baaad!, etc.
Much of the carcass that’s left of expertise/meritocracy is aesthetic-only now—rote habits or signs are all that’s left as the real thing dissipates. So everything from being called a Dr. to the style of scholarship or what signifies “intellectual” etc. today means A LOT to them.
This is also why virtue-signaling is so vital for them all. It’s not just the “I’m one of the *good* people because I parrot the right language and ideas of The Party” bit that motivates them—it’s the unspoken conclusion “*and therefore my expertise is real*” that drives them.
