1/ Dear Matic Network supporters and beloved crypto community,

Today is a big day for our project! 🤗

We are excited to announce that we are expanding our mission and technology scope and becoming Polygon - Ethereum’s Internet of Blockchains. 🦄💫

2/ We started Matic Network in 2017 with a vision to help create a better, open world, primarily by improving Ethereum infrastructure.

We believe Ethereum is the most promising and revolutionary tech project in the world, and we are committed to helping it reach mass adoption.

3/ And we have done our best to make that happen:

- We implemented two popular scaling solutions: Matic PoS Chain and Plasma Chains
- Onboarded 80+ applications
- Powered ~7M+ transactions for ~200k user addresses
- Secured $75M+ of users’ funds
- Awarded $1M+ to developers etc

4/ Along the way, we also learned a lot, and those findings inspired us to create Polygon.

Polygon is a powerful, easy-to-use framework that extends the scope of the Matic platform and transforms it into a swiss-army-knife for Ethereum scaling and infrastructure development.

5/ In addition to the currently implemented Matic PoS Chain and Plasma Chains, Polygon will offer:

- Other major scaling solutions such as zkRollups, Optimistic Rollups, Validium etc.
- Inter-chain communication protocols
- Bleeding-edge data availability solutions
- And more..

6/ With Polygon, Ethereum becomes a full-fledged multi-chain system (aka Internet of Blockchains); akin to Polkadot, Cosmos, Avalanche etc, but with some major upsides:

- The security of Ethereum
- Ability to inherit Ethereum's network effects
- Openness and higher flexibility

7/ All this being said, it is important to note that all the existing Matic solutions, primarily Matic PoS Chain and Matic Plasma Chains, REMAIN FULLY FUNCTIONAL!

Moving forward, they will continue to be developed and grown as very important components of the Polygon ecosystem.

8/ Another important thing to stress is that the $MATIC token will remain the only native token of the whole network.

Moreover, it will play an increasingly important role, primarily in securing the system and enabling governance.

9/ The founders and the Matic Network team will all continue to work in an unchanged way.

However, we are aware that in order to achieve Polygon's ambitious vision, we will need an even stronger team. We will be introducing a number of great additions to it soon, so stay tuned!
