All of these quotes from allegedly undecided Republicans should really have the brief and important disclaimer that they pushed Trump’s Big Lie

In this case: “THUNE, who pushed the lie that Biden didn’t win the election for more than five weeks, calls impeachment managers…”
This stuff is easily google-able. Erasing their history as election deniers encourages them to lie again. This is a simple, effective, objective and accurate way to provide context to what Republicans are now saying about the insurrection they all helped incite in different ways
"Roy Blunt, who spread Trump's Big Lie that Biden didn't win the election for more than five weeks, now says about whether videos might change his mind..."
"Lindsey Graham, who tried to throw out legal Black votes in Georgia..."
“Sen. Ted Cruz, who spread the lie that the election was stolen and told Trump supporters to disrupt the electoral certification on Jan. 6, now says…”

So I have a plausible explanation that Trump’s defense team can use that would clear this up but it requires them to admit Trump is a total moron

Here it is: Trump is too dumb to write tweets and has a documented history of spending 20 to 30 minutes crafting a single tweet
It’s harder to find examples of this now that Trump’s account has been deleted but before he figured out how to publish all the tweets in a thread at once, he would do them one at a time (like I am now) and often the time stamps were embarrassingly far apart
This usually happened in the morning and he’d end a tweet like “The only thing to do is.......” with like a billion .......’s and everyone would be like “wtf is he gonna say, it’s been 20 minutes” and then he’d pop off the conclusion, something delusional. It took him forever

This guy just fundamentally does not understand anything about the subject he covers
Constantly giving Republicans the benefit of the doubt, suggesting they’re good people who will do the right thing—when all the evidence of the last four years would lead anyone to say the exact opposite—is not just misleading but incredibly generous to a party of fascist killers
Chuck Todd is going to invite a Republican senator who pushed the Big Lie onto Meet the Press on Sunday and thank them for sharing their perspective after they say this is the time to come together, not to divide

Republicans won't own any of it and will get away with it as always

Four Republicans who spread the Big Lie were on all four network shows on Sunday and not one of them got a single question about how they told the Big Lie, which was the last thing they were gonna "own" forever
They were supposed to "own" their support of Trump when he praised the Charlottesville nazis
They were supposed to "own" smearing Blasey Ford
They were supposed to "own" putting babies in jail
They were supposed to "own" lying about covid

There are no consequences for anything
Here's Trump communications director Alyssa Farah totally "owning" the consequences of her actions ImageImage

Today every major network invited on a Republican senator who spread the racist Big Lie: Lindsey Graham, Roger Wicker, Bill Cassidy and Rand Paul

None of the hosts even *mentioned* that they lied to overturn the election

CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox are erasing and rewriting history
Graham spent nine weeks saying the election was stolen and that Trump actually won. He tried to get legal votes thrown out in Georgia. He did nothing but blatantly lie

On @FaceTheNation, @margbrennan asked Graham if he thinks the impeachment trial is constitutional
Roger Wicker made false and baseless allegations of voter fraud. He spread the lie to throw out nonwhite votes for Biden and help Trump steal the election. He did nothing but lie

On @ThisWeekABC, @GStephanopoulos let him repeatedly say the impeachment trial is unconstitutional

Tomorrow every network has invited on a GOP senator who pushed the Big Lie:

-Lindsey Graham tried to toss votes
-Bill Cassidy refused to say Biden won
-Roger Wicker alleged voter fraud
-Rand Paul STILL says the election was stolen

There are no consequences for telling ANY lie
None of these senators will get a question about their role in deceiving millions of people to overturn the election. They will be asked “why do you think the president should not be convicted” as if they didn’t spend the last three months lying and getting away with it
Having total freedom of the press makes it so embarrassing that every one of the four major networks willingly and repeatedly extends offers to bad-faith members of a fascist party that tried to overturn the election as if the order is coming down from the ministry of information

CBS has booked one of the most dishonest Republicans who pushed the Big Lie and incited the Jan. 6 insurrection, Lindsey Graham, as a guest for @FaceTheNation on Sunday

There will never be consequences for the liars who tried to overthrow democracy. They will only be rewarded
CBS News’s initial response to the Jan. 6 terrorist attack was to tell its journalists not to call it a coup attempt or even an insurrection, and to note that many of the insurrectionists were peaceful
Four days after the attack @margbrennan booked Roy Blunt, one of the Republican senators who pushed the Big Lie, and didn’t mention once that he was part of the misinformation campaign to overturn the election results
