Former Lagos State governor, Lateef Jakande is dead. He died at the age of 91.
Below are things 10 you should know about the late statesman:
1.Jakande, who was born on July 23, 1929, was fondly called Baba Kekere, in reference to him being the younger version of former Western Region Premier, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
2. According to his profile on the Lagos government website, Jakande’s parents were from Omu-Aran in Kwara State.
3. He worked at Nigerian Tribune, where he rose through the ranks to become the Editor-in-Chief.
4. It was Awolowo who encouraged him to run for the governorship seat of Lagos in 1979 and he won on the platform of the Unity Party of Nigeria.
5. His time in office was terminated by the military coup of the current president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)...
on December 31 1983. 6. LKJ as he was also called lived a simple life including staying in his personal house and driving his personal car to work.
7. After the December 1983 coup, Jakande was charged, prosecuted and convicted of treason, although later he was pardoned.
8. Some of the legacies of his time in office include the Lagos State University, schools and low-cost housing estates popularly known as Jakande schools or estates, commercial boat transport plying Mile 2 to Marina, free education and more.
9. LKJ was the founding father of Nigerian Institute of Journalism in 1963, the brain behind the establishment of the Newspapers’ Proprietors Association of Nigeria and Nigerian Guild of Editors.
10. Throughout his lifetime, Jakande was never awarded a national honour, despite calls by notable Nigerians.

Musician, Davido’s aide, Israel Afeare has apologised to DJ Cuppy, over the statement he made about her work relationship with another artiste, Zlatan Ibile, who had cut off contacts with her.
Afeare’s apology is coming on the heels of Cuppy’s lawyers, Babajide Koku & Co., writing him and demanding he issues a public apology for his libellous statements against their client.
Part of the letter reads, “It is crucial to state that there are legal contracts that govern the relationship between our Client and Mr Zlatan Ibile; said contracts which very fairly and adequately cover the financial compensation of both artists...
Veteran actor, Pete Edochie endorses son, Yul for 2023 presidency

Veteran actor, Pete Edochie has endorsed his son and actor, Yul for the presidency in 2023.
This was revealed in a video posted by Yul on his verified Instagram page on Thursday.
He captioned the video, “My Father Chief Pete Edochie endorses my 2023 Presidential ambition. God Almighty, take absolute control.”
In the video, the older Edochie talked about his religious beliefs as a Catholic and the values he grew up with.
He said, “My values are very strong. I have my own children and they are very strong in that regard too. I am not one to be involved in politics. But you see, no all you children are bound to follow you,” he said.

COVID-19 restrictions: Liverpool coach, Klopp unable to attend mother's funeral in Germany
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed his mother died last month and he is unable to travel from Britain to attend the funeral in Germany because of Covid-19 travel restrictions.
According to reports, Elisabeth Klopp died on January 19 at the age of 81. She was from Glatten in the Black Forest region,
"She meant everything to me. She was a real mum in the best sense of the word," Klopp told local newspaper the Schwarzwaelder Bote.
"As a devout Christian, I know she is in a better place now," he added.

Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello had in a viral video on Wednesday revealed that the former minister had joined the ruling party, a claim which he refuted via his verified Twitter handle, even as he admitted they had been meetings across party lines.
His tweet didn’t calm nerves as those who oppose his defection revealed their opinions. Already, presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad had for days been tweeting his opposition to the defection of FFK to the party.

A rider, Bolade Olukoya, who used the Bolt e-taxi hailing platform and a driver, Olajide Tajudeen have shared different accounts of what transpired during a ride.
Olukoya had earlier on Twitter narrated how she was nearly kidnapped by a Bolt driver. She shared videos from the alleged kidnapping incident as well as the phone number of the driver.
However, Olajide in a series of tweets countered her claims saying he suspected trouble as soon as Bolade got in his vehicle.
