An heir destined to rule two nations, but becoming King in another three and uniting them under a single monarch (for most part) for the next 400 years.

Story in the evening...
Władysław was born in 1456 to Kazimierz, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania and Elisabeth von Habsburg. Władysław's mother was the sister of Ladislaus, King of Bohemia, Hungary & Croatia. As the eldest son among 6 (and 5 sisters), he was educated to become a ruler. 1/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladislaus_II_of_Hungary#/medi
When Ladislaus died childless in 1457, Władysław's parents attempted to claim the thrones. Their claims were rejected, and Hungary (and Croatia, since their crowns were in union) elected Mátyás "Corvinus" Hunyadi as King, while Bohemia elected Jiři Podiebrad. 2/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthias_Corvinus#/media/File:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_of_Pod%C4%9Bbrady#/medi
As a Hussite Protestant leader, King Jiři faced trouble from the Catholic faction. Using the Bohemian King's excommunication by the Pope as an excuse, King Mátyás attacked Bohemia in 1468. King Jiři asked neighbouring Poland for assistance. 3/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemian%E2%80%93Hungarian_War
In return for support, King Jiři agreed to make Władysław his heir. With King Jiři's death in 1471, Władysław became the King of Bohemia. But by then, King Mátyás had conquered key provinces of Bohemia including Moravia and Silesia. 4/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthias_Corvinus#/media/File:
The war came to a close in 1479 with the peace at Olomouc. But the next decade would see ongoing war efforts and alliances among the two Kingdoms and Austria. In 1490, King Mátyás unexpectedly died with no legitimate issue. Władysław was elected King in his place. 5/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthias_Corvinus#/media/File:
But Władysław had to put up with other contenders, including his own brother Jan Olbracht. Eventually he would come out on top, but would also inherit an empty treasury and a threat of an Ottoman invasion. His father's death in 1492 would bring Władysław back to Poland. 6/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladislaus_II_of_Hungary#/medi
Though Władysław would attempt to seize the Polish throne, his brother Jan Olbracht would become the Polish King, as willed by his father. Another brother, Aleksander, would become the Grand Duke of Lithuania. 7/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_I_Albert#/media/File:PL_Ghttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Jagiellon#/media/Fil
Władysław would also have to sign a peace treaty with the Habsburgs, giving his titles to them once his line ends. Though Władysław was childless at the time, a son, Lajos, would be born in 1506. Another child, Anna born in 1503, would marry the Habsburg Prince, Ferdinand. 8/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_II_of_Hungary#/media/Fil
When King Władysław died in 1516, another brother, Zygmunt was King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. Lajos would be killed by Ottomans in the Battle of Mohács in 1526. The Ottoman victory would lead to the partition of Hungary and Croatia. 9/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Moh%C3%A1cs#/media/F
The Habsburg Prince Ferdinand would gain Bohemia and parts of Hungary and Croatia, while the Ottomans acquired the remaining parts. It would take until 1699 for the Habsburgs to reunite Hungary and Croatia and they would continue under Habsburg rule till 1918. 10/10 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Hungary_(1526%E2%80
