In general, I question the ability to break down complex abilities into a small list of components.
At the same time, I wonder what doing so would look like in terms of chess, and whether it would map to how I see my own level.
One thing chess has relative to some other complex abilities is a very solid system of measurement. At higher levels, chess ratings tend to predict the outcome of a sequence of games very well.
But is it even possible to break that down into smaller measurable abilities?
What makes a Magnus Carlsen dominate a 2500 GM? Another chess master on here broke chess down into 1/3 knowledge and 2/3 ability. As I think about it, I neither agree nor disagree. The rules of chess are simple, but mastery is not, prodigies notwithstanding.
Tanitoluwa Adewumi is on track to be one of, if not the, youngest grandmasters ever in American history. What are the talents he possesses relative to other strong chess players? How do we tell a chess player where their skills are weak relative to others? Very subjective now.

43% of progressives and 25% of conservatives say the other side has a fundamentally evil moral foundation.
These poll results really surprised and saddened me and each for different reasons.
I was talking with @freespe4ker and he said many progressives think conservatives have an evil foundation. I didn't assume that was the case. He estimated the number would be around 30%.
I was very wrong.
For progressives, selfish and mean were things I expected to be said about cons. I didn't expect evil, not at that rate.
On the conservative side, I hesitated before posting it, because I thought cons would see progressives as naive or overbearing, I didn't expect evil.
See, if black people are offended by white people casually using the n-word, it's because we're not smart.
John surprisingly frames things as if it's his "woke" nemeses exaggerating what black Americans think of the use of the n-word. It's slanderous he says. Unfortunately for him, this question has been surveyed.
Over 70% think it's never acceptable. Facts don't like your lies John.
Seriously though, the argument doesn't even make sense. The NAACP, UNIA, NOI, SNCC, SCLC, etc are all acronyms from the civil rights era and established by black people.
I think at this point he's actively trying to get banned. I can't even comprehend what he's doing otherwise, and I haven't been a fan of his work or bigotry for years.
So the most charitable read people have come up with here is that James is saying this tweet he's retweeting is proof that woke Jews are causing an increase in anti-Semitism.
Bo: "in academia it's indisputably the case that people of color are given advantages over white people...the who is the least likely to get a job all other things being equal is a white male"
Academia: 40% white males, 27% white women, 4% black, and less than 4% Hispanic.
Before someone says there aren't enough black academics with PhDs.
6.5% of PhD recipients are black and 7% Hispanic.
Yet these groups are max 4% each of full-time academic faculty.
The idea that black and Hispanic people have advantages getting faculty positions in academia, or have "minority privilege" in academia is completely divorced from the reality of academia.
If people want to make the argument that black people with PhDs aren't qualified, well...
