If the "experts" were looking at the data instead of models, they would know that COVID comes in waves. Something amplifies transmission, then all metrics increase for 5-6 weeks, peak, and start falling. Once they start falling, a region has a lull for a few months.

So even if you believe the various mitigations are necessary (I don't), the only time it makes sense to put them in place is when ED visits for COVID-like symptoms start increasing, and then we should only put them in place for a few weeks, until the peak.

Instead, we've kept them in place for close to a year, fearing that the virus might explode if we "let down our guard." Politicians tend to increase them right at the peak out of panic, but they are reluctant to reduce them.

All of the United States is in a decrease right now, which means there is no better time to open schools, open businesses, and get rid of mask mandates (people can wear them if they want).

Let's get back to normal interactions with people and start to overcome the fear that has been instilled into so many over the past year. We need to "get back on the horse" and resume our lives, and the beginning of a lull is the best time to do this.
