I am not going to talk about impeachment today.

To keep that from being so difficult I rupture something, I would just ask that people consider this:

The impeachment wasn’t about a trial.

It was about a media event.

It was a television series and Dems were the producers.

1/
Dems concentrated it down to a few days; ran it when it would be least watched; and then agreed to yank it off the air.

Reconsider your evaluation through that lens.

Did Dems get the most value they could’ve out of this production?

(For ref, see the Benghazi hearings)

2/
And now I’m going to go mute “impeachment” and try to stay true to my word here.

We Dems have a hard time understanding what Republicans have always known: keep an attack on TV long enough and it does damage - no matter how it ends. Even if you lose.

3/
As a communications person, that outage is abject torture for me.

A trial to remove a guy who has already been removed is nearly *all* public relations.

It is a communications production.

There was never a conviction at the end of this. There was only communications value.

4/
This was a sparkling chance to force Rs to live through a Benghazi of their own which:

1) pounded Trump’s legacy to dust
2) divided moderate and MAGA Rs
3) fomented calls for criminal prosecution

Make up your own mind on whether we achieved those as fully as we could have.

5/
If at least some people would indulge me in rethinking their evaluation of the trial through this lens, I might successfully get through the day without rupturing a kidney trying to contain myself.

This was a TV event. The “verdict” was the least important plot element.

6/
What it Dems had done nothing more than postponed the closure until after the recess this week?

We’ll never know.

But we do know that the entire “...but her emails” saga arose because Rs stretched out Benghazi hearings so long, someone saw Hillary on TV using a Blackberry.

7/
Now the trial is over. It will be pushed from the newscycle within two days.

The media will fill the airtime with other things this week.

And McConnell is positively delighted at that.

Did abruptly canceling our own TV series serve our purposes?

That’s the lens.

The stupid faux-virtue of “real-naming” is just annoying AF.

We live in a world where women in particular are subjected to abuse, threats and real-life dangers for doing nothing more than existing online.

Demanding people expose themselves to danger to please you is ridiculous.
Okay, I’m a little revved up about this so I am just going to go off.

When I joined Twitter, I didn’t actually care about anonymity. I just made up an account name and used it. Once this whole thing inexplicably took on a life of its own, I began planning to “out myself”.

Since it’s Valentine’s Day...

We met when I was in my 20s. I was traveling in Ireland on a shoestring. I was young and single and free.

I wasn’t looking for anything. But sometimes love finds you.

Sometimes love just slides up next to you at a bar.

1/
We met somewhere near Shannon and spent a lot of that week together. At the end of the trip, I was sad to leave.

We would have chances to still see each other in the U.S. but it would be different.

It would never be the same as it was that first week in Ireland.

2/
That was many years ago. I’m older now. I have a child. I go out less.

But we do still get together and I still feel that very same love I felt that first week.

We had to stop seeing each other when COVID first hit but we have found ways. An outdoor patio. Ordering takeout.

Rise and shine!

We have places to not go and music to listen to.

This morning’s little treasure defies description. A neo-soul, R&B, roller smooth as a satin pillowcase.

At the 3:15 mark, if your head ain’t bopping, you’re dead.

Sault is a largely anonymous group out of the UK that blends together influences into seven-layer dips that wend and weave through chill to funk and back.

Their latest was produced by Inflo who also produced the great Michael Kiwanuka’s last album.

2/

Kiwanuka broke through with 2016’s “Cold Little Heart”.

It’s a gem of R&B soul laid down over ethereal background vocals and bluesy guitar.

His voice is gravel-smooth. Reminds me of Robert Cray with more bite.

“ITS AN OUTRAGE THEY ARENT LETTING UNSOPHISTICATED INVESTORS RECKLESSLY TRADE STOCKS.” - they said.

Welcome to how that ends for some.
Shaking my head at everyone who gave me shit when I quite literally said people were going to get hurt by the GameStop stupidity.
(Since the 1st story is behind a paywall)

When my 13-year old, 20-something barber and 20-something bartender are all telling me about the same get-rich-quick opportunity, there are gonna be some bad endings.
