1/ The reality is that when Boehner and McConnell joined the Democrats in 2010, to thwart the impact of the tea party, they broke trust with the base.
2/ Then in 2014, after the base rallied to two consecutive establishment Presidential candidates that threw the elections to Obama, we still turned out to hand Ryan the House and Mitch the Senate and they again betrayed us by immediately capitulating to DACA.
3/ In 2016 the base no longer viewed the Republican establishment as representing their interests. Every admonition to reject Trump was ignored because we no longer trusted our political leaders.
4/ And how did they handle this rebuke from the base? They immediately sided with the Democrats false Russia collusion narrative and then used a brain dead McCain to accomplish their ultimate betrayal on repeal and replace.
5/ What was the rallying cry of the base as they backed Trump in 2016? BUILD THE WALL! But Republicans who controlled the House and the Senate rejected every attempt to fund the wall.
6/ It was only after Democrats controlled the House in 2018 that Trump single handedly executed the maneuver to fund and build the wall.
7/ Then in 2020 the Republican Party sat back and watched as every rule was changed to facilitate an election like no other in our history. Who was screaming about it? McConnell? McDaniel? McCarthy? No. It was Trump as the media complex attacked him and the party did nothing.
8/ So why would they think we would back them? They are abusers telling their victims it won’t happen again. Except we have moved out and are no longer answering their calls. They’re angry. Bitter. Resentful. Seemingly prepared to kill us off if they can’t have us.
9/ But we are liberated. Empowered. And we have an advocate encouraging us.

Which only makes them more angry.

Alas nothing they do will work.

We have had enough.
10/ I’m not so deluded to think anything I say matters to @LeaderMcConnell. I’ll just say I called this reality, it’s implications and Trump’s likely victory early in 2015.

Mitch, the more you lash out at Trump, the more we are driven into his arms.

You can’t win this one.
11/ We will emerge stronger. More resolute. Because we have realized how self destructive we were. We allowed the abuse for far too long.

So now we rebuild.

And as Trump says encouragingly, the best is yet to come. /end

Maybe McConnell is just hoping he can scare Trump away from coming after Thune.

Seems what we are actually watching is a battle between Thune and Graham for who becomes the next Leader.

Thune has McConnell.

Graham has Trump and Rick Scott?

Now I’m even more interested.
Thune is up for re-election in 2022.

He is the Republican Whip.

I assume McConnell has been grooming Thune as his successor.

Trump seems to have other plans.

Graham’s actions are a clear attempt to usurp the traditional line of succession.

He has now publicly rebuked McConnell on several occasions including this morning.

Thune on the other hand has consistently backed McConnell.

In this article McCarthy does a great job of exposing the lack of evidence that Sicknick was murdered.

But in this last paragraph he exposes the general weakness of his attempt to blame the capitol breach on Trump. 1/

nationalreview.com/2021/02/what-h…
Trump never encouraged anyone to act violently or to breach the capitol.

The January 6 rally was already scheduled before Trump ever mentioned it or planned to speak.

So you can’t blame the existence of the rally on Trump. 2/
At best you can say more people came because of Trump.

But which additional people came isn’t insignificant to McCarthy’s argument.

If you came to hear Trump speak, you were likely across the plaza when the capitol was breached. 3/

1/ I’m going to describe two scenarios.

Not claiming either one actually happened.

At the end I will ask this question: Given the current election laws and the changes implemented in 2020, how could you differentiate the two after the fact?
2/ Scenario 1

A completely above board election conducted during a pandemic where everyone involved’s primary objective was to produce an accurate result.

In person voting was handled properly. Mail in voting was done 100% by the books.
3/ Miraculously voters took their responsibilities seriously and filled out the envelopes immaculately leading to a reduction in the rejection rate from 6% to .1%.

After stripping the ballot from the envelopes they were run through the machines and results were tabulated.

1/ Democrats were allowed free reign to rally their base and the general public to the deranged idea that Trump was a pawn of Vladimir Putin and even when Mueller said there was no evidence of collusion they kept going with zero penalty.
2/ Just consider the analogous situation where we claimed there was fraud in Philadelphia and the system assigned a special counsel with an unlimited budget and unlimited investigative powers and after two years produced a report saying no evidence of fraud but we kept going.
3/ Let’s be clear, Trump never “proved” fraud. But Trump had no power to investigate. Giuliani never had subpoena power. He could never execute a warrant. Philadelphia was never asked by a court to produce evidence. So “proving” fraud was systemically impossible.

This is only going to get worse for the establishment.

The “insurrection” farce will become more and more obvious to more and more people as time goes on.

The heavy handed way they are criminalizing protest when they justified it all summer will only further anger people. 1/5
Whether people are allowed to express this in public or are forced to repress their views and feelings, people know that the outcome in 2020 was manipulated.

Their desire to correct for 2020 will continue to grow. 2/5
Their first bite at the apple?

Republicans in primaries throughout the country.

But for this to work the people need a pide piper. An organizer. A fund raiser.

And a well rested Trump will happily fill that role. 3/5

Here’s my question @SenTomCotton, if the Congress’s role is simply to rubber stamp the state certified electoral college then why include in the Constitution a mechanism, specific to the election of a President, that includes the ability to object to state certified electors? 1/
Why not include, in the Constitution or the 12 Amendment or the Electoral Count Act, a simple phrase that says if certified the electors must be counted? 2/
Instead what is in the Constitution, 12A and ECA are phrases that acknowledge there could be various submissions, that the VP has a role in deciding which to count and the Congress has a role in potentially objecting to the VP’s decision. 3/
