Hours before the Clark County Commission will vote to change the name of the Vegas airport to bear Harry Reid's name, the Review-Journal, owned by the family of the late Sheldon Adelson, endorses it:
"Harry Reid is as prominent a Nevadan as there ever was. He deserves the honor."
The headline on the editorial is as bland as can be: "County Commission to tackle McCarran name change"
And it is only in the last sentence that the newspaper gets to what the headline really is: The newspaper that once endorsed Sharron Angle is on board. reviewjournal.com/opinion/editor…
Miriam Adelson as well as Sheldon's successor as CEO of Sands join the Prince Harry gushing.
The meeting starts at 9. It's Item 40. Also says will be paid for by private contributions.
The person giving the invocation at the meeting just said that "the right and perfect thing always happens," which will be a surprise to anyone who has ever seen a commission meeting and to those opposed to the Reid-naming.
Choreography on this Reid renaming is really something. Every constituency Reid has helped (Latinos, Blacks, progressives), old-time Las Vegas politicos, major business players, head of law school, more.
All talking to 7 Dems on board.
Scattered opposition falls on deaf ears.
The Reid renaming item is now up!
This is what the process is if the commission approves the name change, as it will very soon.
Federal process could take a bit.
Letters from ADL and Republicans submitted into record, including Sands folks.
Now "Red Rock guy" @JustinJonesNV reading from prepared statement about how Reid saved the environment in Nevada -- or words to that effect.
NV small world fun fact: Jones' wife, @mjoneslv, is a Reidite from way back.
@JustinJonesNV@mjoneslv So we have now had a majority of the commission say the airport should be renamed. It's done except for the vote. Only question is if it is unanimous.
Another great NV story: Commish Jim Gibson, speaking now and waffling, ran against Dina Titus for gov in '06 in Dem primary. Reid quietly supported Gibson, thinking he was stronger general candidate. Titus crushed him. Not sure she ever forgave Reid, but she is supporting this.
"I have countless friends and family" opposed to name change, Gibson said, fretting that it "will fuel the flames of divisiveness in this community."
Oh my.
Gibson wonders about naming things for people. Hmm.
I wonder about this place.
Chair of the commission, @MKNVspeaks, says NOTHING. Hmm. That is a tell. If you can't say something nice....
Vegas gambler Billy Walters had his sentence for insider trading commuted. He was a huge campaign donor and his commutation supported by an ex senator, an ex-gov, an ex-congresswoman, an ex-sheriff, pro golfers and...Lara Logan, who did a fluff 60 Minutes piece on him.
My favorite Billy Walters story is he was on my TV show, didn't like my line of questioning, called me a "motherfucker" during the break, apologized during a later break, then tried to get me fired after the show.
Fun dude.
One of the best pieces ever done on Walters was by @BetsBarnes, who captured the man, his relationships (including with the former sheriff who supported his commutation) and his political donations/influence. reviewjournal.com/business/casin…
Dem gov chooses GOP SOS, who stood up for what was right during assault on elections, to say the pledge of allegiance, which many of her GOP colleagues ignored since Nov. 3.
Priceless.
The speech has begun. We are at the "Here's all the great stuff we did before....you know" part.
Published Fri:
"Let me be clear: Trump will be president for another four years. Biden will not be president."
"Even this week we have sworn testimony out of Italy that the Leonardo defense contractor used satellites to change the votes from our election in the USA from Italy. "
"Expect some sort of internet blackout or outage: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Gmail are likely going to be affected. If you don’t have alternate forms of communication...it would be a good idea to start forming them...
"Expect Trump to be inaugurated on Jan 20th!"
"The next 12 days will be something to tell the grandchildren! It’s 1776 all over again!"
Head of the GOP in Nevada's 7th largest county where Trump won 69-29.
Waiting for GOP leaders, especially those who rep Nye, to disavow this lunacy.
Veteran GOP assemblyman John Ellison of Elko gave a simply bonkers interview Weds. about what happened in DC in which he says the election was stolen and blames Antifa for the riot in the Capitol. "I think you've just seen the death of a country...It started right here in NV."
1/
"They weren't Trump supporters. They were Antifa dressed up as Trump supporters...they've got it on video...It's not about who wins elections. It's about who steals elections. There will never be another free election in this country again if they don't do something."
2/
"I want people to look at the NV representatives that we sent to Washington and what they've done. I'm hoping to God that we remove every one of 'em from office, and that's including all the RINOs in my own party that will be sitting in the Legislature."

Name is mangled more than once and 56 House members object to results.
No senator objects, so Biden win here stands.
APPLAUSE.
That was Brooks from Alabama who objected and said 55 others did, too.
He also cannot pronounce the state's name.
But, to be fair, Pence nailed it!
This formally ends what was started by Adam Laxalt and the Trump campaign, abetted by the state GOP and given sustenance by outside grifters Ric Grenell and Matt Schlapp.
Laxalt should never again be taken seriously in the state he moved to to run for office. Period.
"A republic that respects itself should remember where people stood in this moment, and keep those who would threaten it far from the instruments of political power.
"We must never forget."
Right on, via @UrbanAchievr. Glad others are on this bandwagon.
@UrbanAchievr I wrote about this a few weeks ago, how these people, whom @UrbanAchievr rightly calls "enemies of democracy" should be forever ostracized and kept away from power. Among those in NV: @AdamLaxalt@McDonaldNV@Wheeler4Nevada
Others, too, including most GOP lawmakers who cowered.
