VW recalls 56k Golf 8 ➡️ software problems

Inertia of the infotainment system and response to touch inputs

Functional reliability of some assistance systems e.g. the
rear view camera, the parking aid

"Popping up" of many error messages not comprehensible by the drivers
VW Brand CEO Brandstätter on the question about Software issues of vehicles

(...) We have entered new territory. We are taking the bold, but also the difficult path. We have fundamentally redeveloped the latest generation of automobiles on a blank sheet of paper. (...)
VW CEO Brandstätter contined

"(..) That meant a steep learning curve for us especially in terms of the digital customer experience. We have now put that behind us. The biggest challenge was the new software architecture. We had to build up a massive amount of expertise for this"
Brandstätter about VW SW

(...) This system changeover was not easy, but we have now learned that too. We are well-positioned for the future. Digitization and connectivity will make driving worlds safer and more comfortable. Volkswagen will be one of the pioneers."
"but still you have these software issues" the interviewer said

Brandstätter

"After all, the teams and I tested the cars intensively at all stages of development very early on, we experienced faults ourselves, discussed solutions and got them underway. What do you think (..,)"
"(...) I sometimes bring back in terms of experience after a weekend in our vehicles. We've been able to understand the customers' experiences. And believe me, their displeasure has reached me (...)
Brandstätter

"That's why there's now the update for the Golf, that's why we've stepped up the pace, that's also why every buyer of an ID vehicle will get their update, soon "over the air". Just like with a smartphone, his car will update itself. So software updates are now (..)"
(...) becoming a matter of course. Customers will regularly receive new functions on their vehicles. And of course problems can also be fixed in this way. The important thing is that we want to be fast - fail fast, fix fast. Errors are allowed but they must be corrected quickly."

🇩🇪 Giga Berlin

Interview with Brandenburg Economy Minister Steinbach

Interviewer
'Will the delayed approval of the overall project car factory permit jeopardize the production start that is targeted for July?'

Steinbach "So, not by the issuance of the final permit"

💥
This is breaking & huge news for Giga Berlin.

What the Brandenburg Minister Steinbach just said is that the final permit will NOT delay the production start of Giga Berlin in July

He continued that other factors out of his influence may cause a delay but not the permit process
Minister Steinbach continued about a potential delay of the Giga Berlin production start in July

"The maxim must be that an expected judicial challenge of this permit is rejected. The approval is valid and thus comes into effect"

VWs Chip shortage more severe than the public knows?

VW Purchasing Manager

"The hassle is huge. If the supplier didn't have a chip problem in their supply chain, we would get our ECUs."
VW continued

"If a supplier does not believe our figures & consults a forecasting institute that for whatever reason assesses the situation differently than our experts & therefore orders less in its input material chain, this could be an explanation for the current situation"
The VW purchasing Manager described the consequences

"At the moment, we have no chance of using alternatives for certain components from a purely technical point of view. In addition, we cannot retrofit certain electronic components."

Bill Gates is wrong with many statements but I agree with this one

"If Germany can't get its act together on electric cars, that would be a huge tragedy."
Bill Gates to invest $2bn until 2026 to avert climate change

"We need to change the physical economy at a pace like never before in history."
leadership.ng/bill-gates-to-…
Gates continued in the interview with Handelsblatt

"Germany has done the world a great favor by subsidizing solar modules"

For context, Germany invested in Solar early and subsidized heavily but the local solar panel industry almost died when China entered the market

Benjamin Stephan, Greenpeace traffic Expert:

"VW was its own best customer"

"Instead of fudging its climate balance sheet with self-registrations, VW should quickly get out of the climate-damaging diesel and gasoline business."
"A particularly large number of ID.3s, VW's electric flagship, remained in the group's possession: The manufacturer and its dealers accounted for almost one in four registrations of the model (24 %) in Europe."

13,560 ID.3s never left VW but are declared sold
Greenpeace explained that In Germany, the share of own registrations was 35 %!

The VW Group sells more than 90% climate-damaging diesel & gas engines & has formed a pool with smaller manufacturers of EVs in order to be able to reduce the average emissions of newly sold cars

Greenpeace confirmed what I've said for years now

VW's increase of BEVs is driven by e.g. dealership vehicle registrations and only partly by customers who bought it
spiegel.de/wirtschaft/unt…
According to the Greenpeace report VW has registered through Dealers in Europe

20.5 % of all BEVs &
21.7 % of all PHEVs

That's a total of just over 65,000 electrified cars they claim to have sold but didn't!

A scandal & another cheating of consumers, public, media & customers
Greenpeace states that VWs practice to register 65k electrified vehicles by dealers saved them €140m in fines

"Instead of fudging its climate balance sheet with self-registrations VW should quickly get out of the climate-damaging business with diesel & gasoline-powered cars"
