Classic #CBLOL era, a memeful history thread.

CBLoL, our dear Cebolão, stands for “Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends” (Brazilian League of Legends Championship). Its first edition began in 2012. Its logo had that vintage LoL aesthetics.

Beautiful. CBLoL 2012 logo
CBLoL 2012 edition had no studio for casting and/or playing and was played in four days.

No competing team had a gaming house yet. At the time, organizations could own more than a single team in the same championship, what leads us to the champion of their era: vTi Ignis. vTi logo.
vTi Ignis was one of two vTi teams. The Ignis lineup was composed of top Matheus “Mylon” Borges, jungler Rafael “Rafes” Peres, mid Guilherme “Snowlz” Neves, ADC André “manajj” Rocha, and support Leonardo “Alocs” Belo.

Check them out.

CBLoL 2012 finals were set in the Brasil Game Show (BGS), a yearly gaming fair in São Paulo. It is considered the biggest gaming event in all of Latin America.

Here, you can see our happy winners. Left to right: manajj, Rafes, Alocs, Mylon, and Snowlz. Picture by Riot Games. Left to right: manajj, Rafe...
The total prize for first, second, third, and fourth place of CBLoL 2012 diverges depending on the source. Leaguepedia mentions US$50,000, meanwhile Tecmundo, a tech news website, claims it to be US$80,000. Leaguepedia credits Tecmundo as a source, though, which is kinda funny.
CBLoL 2012 was played in a single elimination bracket format and all matches were best of three games. All matches were played on the v1.0.0.147 World Championship Hotfix Patch with Rengar, Syndra, and Kha'Zix unavailable (thank goodness). The finals were vTi Ignis vs. vTi Nox.
Last, but not least, the Brazilian server was brand new (it was released in 2012 as well), so there was no Worlds qualification or anything. We’ll get into that subject later, much to everyone’s delight.
vTi, both the Nox and the Ignis lineup, no longer exists as an organization. As of February 16th, 2021, Mylon is a caster for CBLoL, Rafes was gone to college and went MIA, Snowlz coaches for Flamengo Esports, manajj streams on Twitch, and Alocs also coaches, but for Vorax.
Now, CBLoL 2013. The logo was changed a bit and looked sort of like Aatrox’s head.

The teams were split into two groups of four. The top two of each group advanced to playoffs. One source cites semifinals as a bo3, another mentions a bo5. Finals were a bo5 for sure. CBLoL 2013 logo.
Our champions this time were the boys of paiN Gaming. paiN still operates as an organization and is currently on CBLoL 2021. As a trivia, the org CEO, Arthur “PAADA” Zarzur, is regarded as a great Dota and Dota 2 player. paiN Gaming logo.
You might recognize some of these names: top Fabio “Venon” Guimarães, jungler Thúlio “SirT” Carlos, mid Gabriel “Kami” Bohm, ADC Felipe “brTT” Gonçalves, and support Martin “Espeon” Gonçalves. brTT and Espeon are not relatives, curiously.

That Ryze, LOL.

The finals were played on patch 3.8.
CBLoL 2013 lasted for three days. It took place in WTC Golden Hall, São Paulo. In the finals, paiN Gaming faced CNB e-Sports Club, another traditional org. The total prize for all eight teams was US$60,000.

Shortly after the victory, paiN Gaming announced its gaming house, the first one in Latin America.

CBLoL 2013 qualified its winner for a spot on the International Wildcard Tournament (IWCT), competing for a seed at Worlds. paiN Gaming finished the IWCT in second place.
Where are they these days?

Venon was a substitute top for paiN in 2018 then went MIA. SirT played for Falkol in 2020, then the same. Kami retired from competitive play and aims to be an airplane pilot. brTT currently plays for paiN. Espeon is a manager for FURIA Esports.
CBLoL 2014 was a much more robust championship, split into the Champions Series and the Regional Finals. The logo lost that Darkin vibe, turning into a crest format. I like it.

For the first time, Brazil had Korean imports. Also, many teams already had their gaming houses. CBLoL 2014 logo.
The Champions Series had six teams instead of eight. Teams would play in the double round robin format, in which a victory (2-0) scored three points for the winning team and a tie (1-1) would score a single point for each team.

Top four teams advanced to the bracket stage.
In the bracket stage, semifinals were played in the best of three format and the grand final was a best of five games.

The patch information on the finals is nowhere to be found, but I estimate it to be around 4.8 or 4.9. I can’t be sure about unavailable champions, sorry.
The winning team of the Champions Series was Keyd Stars, currently rebranded as Vivo Keyd.

In a period that Brazil had its first Korean imports ever, Keyd Stars was a pioneer on what they were doing. These imports forced Brazil to step up as a competitive region. Keyd Stars logo.
The dudes in question were top Matheus “Mylon” Borges, jungler Park “Winged” Tae-jin, mid An “SuNo” Sun-ho, ADC Felipe “brTT” Gonçalves, and support Caio “Loop” Almeida.

The band played vs. paiN Gaming, brTT’s former org.

If you know who the photographer is, please tag them. Left to right: Winged, Loop...
The total prize paid to the first four teams was R$100,000, about US$44,000 at the time. The grand final took place in Centro de Convenções, Fortaleza.

Mylon looks almost photoshopped on the far right. Left to right: Winged, SuNo...
As for the players I haven’t mentioned before, Winged currently plays for PSG Talon, SuNo retired from competitive play, and Loop currently plays for Harrisburg University Storm.

The Champions Series did not qualify for any international events.
Now, let’s talk about the Regional Finals. Its logo was changed from the original crest. There’s even a small map of Brazil on it. I think it has its charm.

Differently from the Champions Series, the winner of these Finals got a spot on the 2014 IWCT. See where this is going? CBLol 2014 Regional Finals ...
Eight teams played total, four coming from the Champions Series and another four from a qualifier series. The grand final was a best of five while all other matches were a best of three.

Our champion this time was KaBuM! Esports, with an all-Brazilian roster. KaBuM! Esports logo.
The quarterfinals and semifinals happened back at Espaço das Américas, São Paulo. The finals took place at Maracanãzinho, Rio de Janeiro. Its name translates to “small Maracanã”, referencing its bigger, more famous brother.

KaBuM! played the finals vs. CNB e-Sports Club.
As for the patches, the finals were likely played in 4.11 or 4.12.
The roster consisted of top Pedro “LEP” Marcari, jungler Daniel “Danagorn” Drummond, mid Thiago “TinOwns” Sartori, ADC Gustavo “Minerva” Queiroz, and support Daniel “dans” Dias.

In the picture above, you can also see Bruno “bit” Fukuda and Pedro “Zirigui” Vilarinho.

The finals gathered around eight thousand spectators in person. Despite laggy connections, Brazil loves League very much.

Here's the victory picture. Image
The prize pool was R$100,000, given that R$55,000 were for the winner team only. Second, third, and fourth places earned smaller amounts.

Winning the Regional Finals guaranteed a spot in the 2014 IWCT, the qualifier for LoL World Championship, our dear Worlds. It’s about time…
KaBuM! played their way out of the IWCT, beating PEX Team in a 3-0 series. Along with the Turkish team Dark Passage, they qualified for Worlds 2014 as the wildcard teams.

Please, keep the TCL in the back of your mind for future reference.
A Brazilian team was in Worlds. Like with all things new and shiny, Brazilian community was dazzled (not Taric’s E, though).

With “Warriors” popping in their headphones, Brazilians were hyped to the max. How strong was the region, seriously? Well, time to find out.
KaBuM! was able to pull out a single win vs. Alliance (from LCS EU). Alliance did play, and did come back every now and then. No troll pick. No “play whatever and stomp these dudes”. A win. A legit, sort of solid win.

Do you remember that Summoner’s Rift, sweet summer child? KaBuM! taking the Nexus vs....
However, a flood of memes lurked in the distance. As KaBuM! was significantly weaker than the rest of the group, the world was blessed with the opening picture of this humongous thread, as well as the famous “teLEPort” seen below vs. C9.

Nothing personal, LEP. LEP's Teleport vs C9.
Nowadays, LEP has retired from competitive play and livestreams on Twitch, Danagorn coached for Santos e-Sports in 2019, tinowns is the mid laner for paiN Gaming, Minerva was jungling for Vivo Keyd until disbandment, and dans is retired as well.
This is it for today, folks. See you anytime soon.

Modern #CBLOL era, a memeful history thread.
Read at your own discretion. Spiderman pointing at Spide...
Hello, everyone, it’s your favorite subtitles key back to the meme garden. Now, we dive not so deep into what I call the modern era of Cebolão.

The meme above borrows from Brazilian soccer. One can read: “when two Flamengos turn out to only have smelled it”.
This “cheirinho” (smell) meme began when Flamengo fans used to say “que cheirinho de hepta” (sorta “I can smell an hepta [to be a seven times champion]”) whenever Flamengo came near being seven times Brazilian champion.

And whenever it didn’t happen, it was only the smell of it.

Silver Age #CBLOL era, a memeful history thread.

Read at your own discretion. Pobelter saying "When ...
The subtitles on the image read as: “when I get solo killed by the Brazilian Faker”. In the video, Pobelter goes on with “I want you to be right there for me”.

Source below.

It’s your Onion back to the game with that juicy info that’ll make you tear up. I decided at the last minute to split the enormous thread into three.

Please keep in mind that “Classic”, “Silver Age”, and any further name is nothing but a meme-y label and by no means official.
