#CBLOL 2021, a memeful informational thread.

Read at your own discretion. CBLoL logo drawn on MS Paint.
Oh, hi. Are you new here?

If you’re not, welcome back to the garden, Onion is again into the meme game. If you are new, I’d advise you to check out the other three threads on #CBLOL to keep up with its history and memes.

Links below.
Classic #CBLOL era, a memeful history thread. (2012–2013–2014)

Silver Age #CBLOL era, a memeful history thread. (2015–2016–2017)

Modern #CBLOL era, a memeful history thread. (2018–2019–2020)

As stated in the second thread, the names for the different periods are nothing but memes and by no means official categorization. However, the three-year cut derives from Riot’s studio changes and to grant readability to the threads.

Without further ado, let’s get started.
Now, let’s talk about CBLoL’s new visual identity. Forget about the magical crest. I told you it would disappear once you scrolled down, didn’t I?

The new logo is much simpler and edgier. Marketing tendencies, I guess. I like it and a revamp was indeed a good time. CBLoL ACTUAL logo.
There’s also a new franchise system. Franchises remove the promotion and relegation that once happened with Challenger Circuit (CC).

Ten teams have bought spots for CBLoL and the same ten teams are also granted spots for their Academy teams in CBLoL Academy.
Smaller orgs would no longer fight for spots in CBLoL vs. bigger orgs’ Academy teams. Previously, when an Academy team was promoted, its spot was sold to other orgs due to the no sister teams rule.

Also, now, players can come and go from Academy to CBLoL and vice-versa.
A spot was worth R$4,000,000 for teams that were already in CBLoL and R$4,400,000 for new orgs.

The tournament has a double round robin format, in which matches are a best of one. Top six teams on the chart advance to the playoffs. Top two teams are already placed in semifinals.
If there’s a tie, it can be broken by head-to-head record during the regular season, then by the shortest combined game time for the team’s wins. If there’s still a tie, a tiebreaker game will be played.
The prize pool for the season only is R$25,000 shared among seventh to tenth teams on the chart.

As for the prize pool involving the six teams in playoffs, it goes up to R$185,000, with R$70,000 for the winning team.

The winner is automatically qualified for MSI 2021.
CBLoL 2021 also gathers a huge team of casters. Some cast only for CBLoL, some cast only for Academy. The complete name list in alphabetical order is as follows.
Alexandre “Skeat” Trevisan, Arthur “Vecet” Nogueira, Brunno “Colosimus” Felipe, Carlos “Nappon” Rücker, Diniz “Gruntar” Albieri, Eduardo “Dudu” Souza (also known as “etsblade”), Felipe “Tonello” Tonello, Gustavo “gstv” Cima, Layze “Lahgolas” Brandão.
Maju “Fogueta” Junqueira, Matheus “Mylon” Borges, Murilo “Takeshi” Alves, Rafaela “Rafa” Tomasi, Ravena “Ravena” Dutra, and Tácio “Schaeppi” Schaeppi.

Oof, that’s a whole lot of people working.

As the current pandemic situation is still complicated in Brazil, CBLoL 2021 is both played and cast remotely. The finals, scheduled to April 18th 2021, are going to be remote as well.
There are ten teams in CBLoL. In alphabetical order: Cruzeiro eSports, Flamengo Esports, FURIA Esports, INTZ, KaBuM! e-Sports, LOUD, paiN Gaming, Red Canids Kalunga, Rensga, and Vorax.
ICYMI, there’s a burning discussion among language professionals and students on how to spell “esports” in Portuguese. The English word “esport” or its plural “esports” is too close to the Portuguese word for “sport”/“sports”, which is “esporte”/“esportes”.
Even the pronunciation of “esports” is close to the Portuguese word “esportes”, so it is sometimes preferable to say “esporte eletrônico” (electronic sport) to avoid ambiguity.

The thing is, some teams and portals will spell it as “esports”, “e-sports”, “e-Sports”, “eSports”...
Let’s not get too off-topic. I’ll introduce you to all the teams, one by one. Their logos are the same as presented below, except for the second left to right in the first line, which became Vorax.

Sting’s nickname derives from the anime Fairy Tail.

Truklax is from Portugal.
Flamengo Esports

Clube de Regatas do Flamengo exists as a sports club from Rio de Janeiro since 1895. A Flamengo fan is a “flamenguista” or “rubro-negro”. The club is dubbed “Fla”. Their mascot is a vulture. Flamengo Esports exists since 2017 and debuted in LoL in BRCC 2018. Flamengo Esports logo.

As of February 24th 2021, Flamengo has a score of 11 wins and 1 defeat, being the first team on the chart. They are already qualified for the playoffs.
Their cheering hashtag is #GoFLA

Related memes and trivia: the community imported the “cheirinho” (smell) memes from the soccer fandom. Whenever Flamengo comes near winning a tournament and doesn’t, “ficou só no cheirinho” (it was just the smell of it).
RangerNation is a meme associated with Ranger and mainly his sick Graves plays (ironically and unironically), “Eu sou RangerNation” (I am [a part of the] RangerNation) is used to either show support or to mock him. There is even a song about it. A lot of buff guys around a...
Absolut and RedBert are called a “duo do amor” (love duo) due to their synergy and the long time they’ve been playing together.
FURIA Esports

FURIA Esports is an org that has been rebranded several times. The genesis took place in Ilha da Macacada (IDM), a big League-focused Facebook group. Admins and mods announced the team and a partnership with KaBuM! e-Sports, in order to generate KaBuM! IDM Gaming. FURIA Esports logo.IDM Gaming logo.
There was a sister team, KaBuM! IDM UP, intended to play in the Challenger Circuit (CC). In 2017, a former IDM admin supposedly had legal rights to the team’s name and CC spot. IDM lost its KaBuM! partnership and both spots as a consequence.
IDM Gaming returned to CC in 2017 2nd split with a new company ID. The dispute continued in 2018 and IDM rebranded to Razer Pichau Gaming (RPG) in order to stay in CBLoL while the case was settled.

Later in 2018, the team rebranded again to Uppercut esports. Razer Pichau Gaming logo.Uppercut esports logo.
Then, in December 2019, FURIA Esports bought Uppercut to form FURIA Uppercut, then rebranded for the nth time as simply FURIA Esports. Whew, what a trip.

FURIA literally means “fury” and their players are sometimes called “panteras” by casters.

They’ve never won a CBLoL split.
Roster as of February 24th 2021: tops Javier Eugenio Manuel “Skeeto” Fuentes Nicoletti and William “Tyrin” Portugal, jungler Ignacio “Follow” Anderson, mid Ruan “Anyyy” Silva, ADC Pedro Lucas “Beenie” Rodrigues, and support Yan “Damage” Sales Neves.

As of February 25th 2021, FURIA Academy has 8 wins and 4 defeats, being the second on the chart, tied with LOUD and RED.
They have no specific name for their fans. However, sometimes they call their roster or content creators “furiosos/furiosas” (furious).

Their cheering hashtag is #GOFURIA
Related memes and info: Hiago Felipe, community manager for FURIA, was one of the most well-known admins of Ilha da Macacada. After allegedly abusing his banhammer, people began spamming “me bane aqui Hiago” (ban me here Hiago) in whatever chat or group unrelated to Ilha.
Former CEO of Uppercut esports André “Mrelic” Marden passed away in 2019 due to various long-term health issues. Uppercut raised the hashtag #Up4Andre to carry on his legacy.

May he rest in peace.
INTZ

INTZ is short for “intrepidez” (boldness). This org was founded in 2014 when investors bought the Out Of Position roster. It was previously known as INTZ e-Sports, but later rebranded just to INTZ.

I guess you’ve heard of them, even if you’re not Brazilian. INTZ logo.
INTZ sometimes calls their fans “intrépidos”, and so do the casters when talking about the roster. Their motto is “be fearless”, in good old English.

They were five times CBLoL champions: 2015 1st split, 2016 1st and 2nd split, 2019 1st split, and 2020 2nd split.
Roster as of February 24th 2021: top Felipe “Boal” Boal, jungler Gabriel “Revolta” Henud, mid Bruno “Envy” Farias, ADC Micael “micaO” Rodrigues, and support Leonardo “Gyeong” Oliveira Alves de Lima.

They are former owners of INTZ Red when sister teams were allowed. When the ban came, INTZ sold INTZ Red’s spot and roster, rebranded to Red Canids. We’ll get to that.

As of February 24th 2021, INTZ has a score of 4 wins and 8 defeats, being the seventh team on the chart.

As of February 25th 2021, INTZ Academy has 2 wins and 10 defeats, being the ninth on the chart, tied with KaBuM!

Gyeong switched to the main team and Cabu replaced him in Academy.

Their cheering hashtag is #GOINTZ

Related memes and trivia: INTZ gathers a lot of haters, maybe more than any other CBLoL team. There’s even a meme of “bater em intrépido” (to beat up an intrépido), as in “bata em um intrépido hoje mesmo” (beat up an intrépido today).
The team was once home to the “Exodia” roster: top Felipe “Yang” Zhao, jungler Gabriel “Revolta” Henud, mid Gabriel “tockers” Claumann, ADC Micael “micaO” Rodrigues, and support Luan “Jockster” Cardoso. This roster, while playing for INTZ, lost no game series in Brazil.
A running meme is that micaO is said to be caught out of position a lot and Revolta misses his Smite often.

micaO has poliosis: “the decrease or absence of melanin (or colour) in head hair, eyebrows, eyelashes or any other hairy area” according to Wikipedia.
The “respeito e seriedade” is a meme dating back to 2015 when INTZ had problems with Riot Games and Caio “Loop” Almeida’s contract. INTZ’s CEO posted on Facebook that he would solve the problem with “respeito e seriedade” (respect and seriousness).
KaBuM! e-Sports

According to Leaguepedia, KaBuM! is the biggest e-commerce store in Latin America. In 2013, they announced their debut in esports, acquiring Nex Impetus’s roster. It has existed ever since.

I guess you’ve also heard of them. KaBuM! e-Sports logo.
KaBuM! calls their fans and players “ninjas” and so do the casters when talking about the roster. Their mascot is a ninja, by the way.

They are four times CBLoL champions: 2014 2nd split, 2018 1st and 2nd split, and 2020 1st split.
Roster as of February 24th 2021: top Choi “Wizer” Ui-seok, jungler “Ryan”, mid Danniel “Evrot” Franco, ADC David “Disave” Chaves, and support Matheus “Professor” Leirião.

As of February 25th 2021, KaBuM! Academy has 2 wins and 10 defeats, being the ninth on the chart, tied with INTZ.
Related meme: the “teLEPorte” was a play by Pedro “LEP” Marcari during Worlds 2014 vs. Cloud9. Go check it out if you have a minute or two to spare. LEP teleporting to death.
Another memerific game in that same year was KaBuM! vs. Alliance, which Alliance lost. Given that Alliance was in third place after that game, they could not advance to the knockout stage.

As they say in Brazil, “caiu, mas caiu atirando” (they fell, but they fell shooting). KaBuM! winning vs. Alliance.
Professor is known for shouting a lot during matches.

Another meme related to him is “eu sou macaco velho, Professor” (I’m an old monkey, Professor). That was said by Whesley “Leko” Holler. That expression means “I’m wise and experienced”.
KaBuM!’s headquarters, both the team’s and the store’s, used to be in Limeira, São Paulo. The team had to travel all the way to São Paulo (the city) every weekend in order to play.

Nowadays, the team lives in São Paulo like everyone else.
KaBuM! was responsible for registering the first woman in a CBLoL team. Geovana “Revy” Moda was a sub support for KaBuM! Black, its former sister team.

Talking about KaBuM! Black, Lee “Crown” Min-ho, previously under the handle of “Shadow”, has played for them. A world champion!
LOUD

LOUD was founded in 2019 by a mobile games influencer. This org was popular on Free Fire, which is insanely big in Brazil, before they even dreamed of debuting in League.

And when they did, they already had a gigantic following. LOUD logo.
2021 is their first year in CBLoL, so, they have no cups to speak of. LOUD fans are called “tropa” (troop) and casters dubbed the team “tropa” as well. Their motto is “follow the noise”, in good old English.
Roster as of February 24th 2021: top Rodrigo “Tay” Panisa, junglers Finn-Lukas “DonArts” Salomon and Mateus “Mewkyo” Ferraz, mid Matheys “dyNquedo” Rossini Miranda, ADC Igor “DudsTheBoy” Lima Homem, and support Denilson “Ceos” Oliveira Gonçalves.

Picture by LOUD. In the back: Vahvel, Vitin,...
As of February 25th, LOUD Academy has 8 wins and 4 defeats, being the second on the chart, tied with FURIA and RED.
Related memes and trivia: every content creator, whenever hired by LOUD, seems to suffer from the “LOUD effect”: they suddenly blow up in followers on social media. They are compared to FaZe Clan, a CS:GO org, due to that.
LOUD also has the “faz o L” (do the L) catchphrase, encouraging people to do an L with their fingers. L is for LOUD, though, not “loser”.

Plus, the “tropa” for LOUD fans is sometimes reduced to “tropinha” (small troop) meaning that their supporters are mostly children.
dyNquedo is a known Brazilian funk fan, as stated in the modern era thread.

Mewkyo was made fun of for replying an “I don’t know” in a post-game interview.

DudsTheBoy is sometimes called “Dudão” (big Duds) by casters.
paiN Gaming

paiN Gaming was founded in 2012, being currently the oldest org in CBLoL. It only left the tournament when relegated to the Challenger Circuit (CC) for a year, in 2018 2nd split and 2019 1st split.

Guess some of you might know them as well. paiN Gaming logo.
Their fans are jokingly called “painzetes”, but have no official fan name. They are, however, dubbed “melhor torcida do mundo” (best crowd in the world) by the team.

They are two times CBLoL champions: 2013 (single split) and 2015 2nd split.
Roster as of February 24th 2021: top Leonardo “Robo” Souza, jungler Marcos “Cariok” Santos de Oliveira Junior, mid Thiago “tinowns” Sartori, ADC Felipe “brTT” Gonçalves, and support Han “Luci” Chang-hoon.

As of February 25th 2021, paiN Gaming Academy has 6 wins and 6 defeats, being the sixth on the chart, tied with Vorax.

Not this again.
Their cheering hashtag is #GOPAIN

Related memes and trivia: a popular meme is “paiN não é modinha, paiN é tradição” (paiN is no fad, paiN is traditional), which rose to the meme status through a fan video.

That fan was later cancelled by the community, but that’s another story.
Gabriel “Kami” Bohm is commonly associated with paiN due to never leaving the org when he was a pro.

brTT has tons of memes on his back, from jokingly “being arrested” to his catchphrase “rexpeita” (rexpect or something like that). Him and Luci are also a “duo do amor” of sorts.
RED Canids Kalunga

RED Canids Kalunga was a sister team to INTZ. When the prohibition of sister teams occurred around the end of 2015, INTZ allegedly sold their secondary roster to a group of investors. It was rebranded by that time. However, the new owners were related to INTZ. Red Canids Kalunga logo.
As a result, Riot ordered INTZ to transfer either one of its rosters, or else they’d lose their spot in CBLoL 2016 1st split. Only then, INTZ sold RED Canids to the owner of Brasil Mega Arena (BRMA), which is a huge esports convention in Brazil.
First, they were RED Canids, then RED Canids Corinthians due to a partnership with Sport Club Corinthians Paulista (aka Corinthians, a sports team), and are now RED Canids Kalunga, Kalunga (a stationary store chain) being their current sponsor.
The team and their fans are called “matilha” (pack [of dogs, usually]) due to their mascot being a maned wolf. Maned wolves are lonely animals, but let’s give them a break. It’s a cool name.

Sometimes, they are called only “RED”.

They were CBLoL champions of 2017 1st split.
Roster as of February 24th 2021: top Guilherme “Guigo” Ruiz, jungler Gabriel Vinicius “Aegis” Saes de Lemos, mid Adriano “Avenger” Perassoli, ADC Alexandre “TitaN” Lima dos Santos, and support Gabriel “Jojo” Dzelme de Oliveira.

As of February 25th 2021, RED Academy has 8 wins and 4 defeats, being the second on the chart, tied with LOUD and FURIA.
Related memes and trivia: They are dubbed “trupe da franjinha” (troupe of the bangs) due to Aegis, Avenger, and TitaN’s hairstyles.

Felipe “YoDa” Noronha, a retired pro player and ultra popular Twitch streamer, was under contract with RED for a good while even after retiring.
TitaN began playing competitively before reaching the age of eighteen.

Jojo is frequently asked if he’s ever watched JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures.
Rensga

Rensga is an org based in Goiânia, capital of the state of Goiás, a land full of farms, pequi, pamonha, and Goiás accent. CBLoL 2021 is being played remotely, good for them. The name itself, “rensga”, is a popular expression from Goiás and its surrounding regions. Rensga logo.
You can’t explain “rensga”. You can only feel it. Either you feel it, or you can’t understand it. Be water, my friend.

What am I even talking about?

They are even sponsored by VillaMix, a country music festival. How great is that?
The org was created in 2019 when they acquired Operation Kino’s spot in Challenger Circuit. It’s their first year in CBLoL, so they have no cups to brag about.

The team is called “the cowboys” by the caster, thank you very much.
Roster as of February 24th 2021: top Thiago “Kiari” Luiz, junglers Felipe “Fiennes” Ribeiro de Souza and Lucas Antonio “Froststrike” Espíndola Valverde, mid Eneas “Enga” Protti, ADC Matheus “Trigo” Trigo Nobrega, and support Pedro “Zirigui” Vilarinho.

As of February 25th 2021, Rensga Academy has 7 wins and 5 defeats, being the fifth on the chart.
Related memes and trivia: Rensga’s identity on social media reinforces their origins, making memes and jokes of country connotation.

Their old uniform is dubbed “camisa dos Correios” (postal service T-shirt) due to its similarities to the uniform of the Brazilian postal service.
Vorax

Vorax was born from the merger of two other orgs: Prodigy Esports and Falkol. They are the team whose logo you can’t find in the initial image. As you might have deduced, Vorax is brand new to CBLoL 2021.

As you might also already know, they were never champions. Vorax logo.
Vorax’s parent org Prodigy Esports was already a rebranded ProGaming Esports. The latter was the esports division of a computer store that had sponsored teams in the past.

ProGaming Esports was founded in 2016 and entered CBLoL in 2017. Prodigy specifically played in CBLoL 2020. ProGaming Esports logo.Prodigy Esports logo.
Vorax’s other parent org Falkol was a rebranded 5Fox E-Sports Club, which was the result of purchasing CNB Trinity White along with its spot in the Challenger Circuit (CC). Falkol specifically played in CC during 2019 and 2020. 5Fox E-Sports Club logo.Falkol logo.

Vorax is tuned to the finest memes and put an onion in that announcement. How great of them!

As of February 25th 2021, Vorax Academy has 6 wins and 6 defeats, being the sixth on the chart, tied with paiN Gaming.
Related memes and trivia: Matsukaze is also called “Matsubase” due to his many deaths in CBLoL 2017. Krastyel is also called “Krastymel” (“mel” being “honey”) for no apparent reason.
The team is dubbed “fNb e amigos” or “fNb e capangas” (“fNb and friends” or “fNb and his henchmen”) due to fNb’s strong performance.

Wos used to duo lane with Rafael “Woq” Andrade, a retired player, and they even have matching nicknames.
So, that was it. Not gonna lie, it was a lot of work and I hope it turned out fine.

Follow for more #CBLOL stuff, trivia, info, and memes. Onion out!

Modern #CBLOL era, a memeful history thread.
Read at your own discretion. Spiderman pointing at Spide...
Hello, everyone, it’s your favorite subtitles key back to the meme garden. Now, we dive not so deep into what I call the modern era of Cebolão.

The meme above borrows from Brazilian soccer. One can read: “when two Flamengos turn out to only have smelled it”.
This “cheirinho” (smell) meme began when Flamengo fans used to say “que cheirinho de hepta” (sorta “I can smell an hepta [to be a seven times champion]”) whenever Flamengo came near being seven times Brazilian champion.

And whenever it didn’t happen, it was only the smell of it.

The subtitles on the image read as: “when I get solo killed by the Brazilian Faker”. In the video, Pobelter goes on with “I want you to be right there for me”.

It’s your Onion back to the game with that juicy info that’ll make you tear up. I decided at the last minute to split the enormous thread into three.

Please keep in mind that “Classic”, “Silver Age”, and any further name is nothing but a meme-y label and by no means official.
