Charges against activists: ‘offending religious beliefs’ for distributing posters of the Virgin Mary with a rainbow halo(colours of the #LGBT pride flag)
160 000 people have joined Amnesty International’s campaign urging the Prosecutor General to drop the unfounded charges against three women human rights activists
Having, creating and distributing posters as the ones used by the activists should not be a crime/criminal offence. This case should have never been brought to court as their actions are protected by the right to freedom of expression.
The hearing will start soon.
Outside the court a lot of supporters have gathered. You will never walk alone!
The hearing starts with the first witness testimony: if those signs were about "Jews" or "Roma people" there would be no doubt that this is incitement to hatred - says Monika Niedźwiecka.
This testimony concerns the homophobic installation in the st. Dominic Church in Płock.
Outside the court there are Amnesty International activists who will be supporting Ela, Anna and Joanna today. The message is: You will never walk alone!
The prosecutor requests 6 months restriction of freedom in the form of community service. Defense's closing speech is in progress.
"Is a religious feeling homophobia, intolerance or exclusion" ? The defendant's lawyer, Radosław Baszuk, asks the judge.
The hearing is now over. The final decission will be announced by the court on 2nd March at 10 a.m.
After the long hearing tired Elżbieta Podleśna is thanking for all the support in a video for us: "What you are doing gives me the feeling that truly I will never walk alone". facebook.com/amnestypolska/…
Tymczasem zachęcamy do podpisywania petycji i wzywania do władz o natychmiastowe wycofanie zarzutów postawionych za pokojowy aktywizm! amnesty.org.pl/akcje/zadaj-sp…#TęczanieObraża
