Discussing the Capitol Insurrection, @BetoORourke just now mentioned that Sen. Ted Cruz reportedly hightailed it to Cancun, Mexico, while his constituents freeze to death and have to boil water.
One reporter confirmed the Cruz-to-Cancun photo, though it is unclear if this was confirmed with Cruz's staff or the senator himself. More to come, surely.
Looks like Fox News is confirming that Ted Cruz has indeed fled Texas amid a deadly freeze
Here's Sen. Cruz on February 15, two days before getting on a plane to Cancun, encouraging Texans to stay home:

“… we could see 100 people lose their lives this week in Texas. So don’t risk it. Keep your family safe.”
Mayor Craig Brown of Galveston (TX) weighs in:

"It's a response that to me is from someone that didn't have to experience this. If he was in the midst of this, and he was experiencing this, I think there would be a different attitude and feeling on that."
Sen. Ted Cruz at the Cancún airport:

"Yesterday my daughters asked if they could take a trip with some friends, and Heidi and I agreed, so I flew down with them last night, dropped them off here and now I'm headed back to Texas."

Last month, Texas resident Royce Peirce paid $387.70 to heat his two-story house. This month, he owes $8,162.73 — and counting.

Amid freezing temperatures and another looming winter storm, Texans are facing a second crisis: astronomical power bills.
thedailybeast.com/dollar5152-pow…
Why are these energy bills so high? You can thank Texas’s power grid for that.

The U.S. is divided into three grids: one covers the eastern states, another the western states, and then there’s the Texas grid, ERCOT, which covers nearly the entire state.
Now you might be wondering: Why does Texas have its own power grid?

If you’re familiar with the state’s history and public policy, you probably already know the answer. In short, Texas has its own grid to avoid dealing with the federal government.

“To Be Young, Gifted, and Black” — an anthem that has inspired decades of politicians, artists, and activists.

Let’s spend a moment during #BlackHistoryMonth with Nina Simone’s iconic piece of civil rights history.
“To Be Young, Gifted, and Black” was written in 1969 after the death of Simone’s long time friend and playwright, Lorainne Hansberry.

Hansberry was the first Black woman to stage a play on Broadway, “A Raisin in the Sun.”
The lyrics speak to the power of the millions of young, gifted, Black people publicly celebrating Black identity in the late ‘60s.

“In the whole world you know / There's a million boys and girls / Who are young, gifted and Black / And that's a fact”

Trump’s defense team played a long whataboutism-filled mashup of Democrats saying the word “fight.”

Follow along, here’s what they left out:

Here’s a story you may not be following closely: Thousands of NYC taxi drivers — almost all born outside of the U.S. — have been driven into financial ruin, causing several to take their own lives.

The COVID pandemic has exacerbated the crisis.
In short, many NYC cab drivers spent their life savings and signed loans reaching more than $1,000,000 to purchase a medallion, a permit to operate.

Driving provided a good living until the medallion bubble burst and ride-hailing apps like Uber and Lyft siphoned off passengers.
Despite years of warning signs, government agencies did little to stop the impending collapse.

They instead helped bankers shape the iconic NYC industry “into their own moneymaking machine,” The New York Times found. nytimes.com/2019/05/19/nyr…
