The site is absolutely devastating peoples homes going up in flames as many are outdoors braving the cold temps.
The fire chief on scene tells me they were able to evacuate the entire building, as well as neighboring buildings; however this is now a total loss.
One resident is standing by watching as her entire livelihood goes up in flames.
Unfortunately this fire could not be contained as a fire hydrant directly in front of the building remains frozen due to the #TexasWinterStorm.
All of the residents of this building as well as those neighboring have been evacuated and taken to Johnson high school where they will be assisted by the Red Cross.
So far fire officials do not have a cause and expect to work through the rest of the night to put the fire out.
You can now see cars on fire. The majority of the building has now collapsed however fire crews are still battling the fire bringing in water from every nearby source.
This is how fire crews are getting water to spray from up high. ALL hydrants are frozen. Fire fighters are relying on tankers, like this one, to bring water in from nearby sources.
This is what’s left of the building, it’s down to one floor.
We’re now learning the fire affected 32 units.
Families have lost everything.
If you’d like to help:

UPDATE: @CBCSocial has offered to help families who were displaced.
As they wait to hear from first responders, they’re collecting @HEB@Target@Walmart & @Visa gift cards to help the families. Pastor Ed says you can drop them off between noon and 5 p.m. today.
Fire crews battled the Cortland View apartment fire well through the night and into this morning.
“Who’s to say it doesn’t happen in our building.”
I’ve spoken with residents on the opposite side of the fire who fear, due to not having water, this could happen to them next.
GOOD NEWS: As of 4:15 pm @CBCSocial has raised $86,000 to help the families of this horrible tragedy.
You can still help, CBC is collecting water starting tomorrow for those without.
Raiden Gonzalez is just four and has already suffered immense loss after COVID-19 claimed both of his parents. I spoke with him and other family members. I'll have his story at 9 and 10
Next week, Raiden turns five. His Nana is asking for everyone to rally around the young man to help celebrate with a drive-by ‘Roar and Wave’ parade to help lift his spirits. 🦖🦕
This is Adan and Mariah, Raiden’s parents who were taken too soon. They died within 100 days of one another, leaving their toddler son behind. #COVID19
