Two – You’re one of only 2 statewide fed officials. You can CALL FEMA & help direct all different kinds of help. The right person at FEMA will TAKE YOUR CALL! Does a municipal water purification plant need generators?
Three – You have staff statewide. They are an important interface between the federal agencies & state & local gov’t & agencies. If you’re on the ground, say with the governor, you’re hearing things that your staff won’t hear.
Four – You reassure & help folks who have sustained losses. If you’ve been on the ground during disasters previously, you are able to tell people what they need to do to get federal aid. This is practical help that can also provide some hope at a time people need it.
Five – You LEARN stuff. Sen’s do more than just VOTE, as Distort D’Newza seems to think. A huge part of your job is shaping legislation. It’s good to know how the grid works (& doesn’t) if you’re on the energy committee; Or even if you’re just VOTING on energy leg.
Six – It’s good for the soul! IAmazing to see all how folks step up & help after a flood or a tornado. Chruches provide shelter. VFWs make sandwiches for the relief workers. As water is rising a guy with bulldozer somehow builds a berm overnight to save his neighbor’s house,
Seven – We are in this together. That’s a helpful message to send. We can all help by donating to amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/02/17…
