I’d never heard of long-ago San Francisco Mayor Roger Lapham until five minute ago, but I already despise him. In an annual address he said, “Junk the cable cars!” Thankfully a very smart woman named Friedel Klussmann intervened. sfchronicle.com/chronicle_vaul…

Scenes from inside the cable car barn at Mason and Washington. Lots of cars are covered in plastic to protect them from pigeon poop as they await their return to service. No guarantee that will happen this year. 😢
