When I first started tracking COVID data at @AlachuaChronic1, I put the articles in the "Health" category. Having no idea that government would mandate behaviors that were recommended by the CDC, I thought people would use the data to make decisions about their own health.

1/9
The idea was that when cases went up, people would limit activities that exposed them to the virus - you know, like when "something is going around" in your community.

2/9
Under this common understanding that we ALL had a year ago, people would limit activities when cases are high and begin to resume them when cases fell.

Of course, what happened was that we were all mandated to limit activities.

3/9
But the flip side hasn't really happened anywhere. Cases were low in the northeast for the whole summer, but mandates remained. My county's 7-day average positivity rate is below 3%, but city commissioners want to increase enforcement of the mask mandate.

4/9
People like me have been warning since March that when government takes power, it is slow to give it back - if ever.

And here we are: restrictions until some bureaucrat decides your life is safe enough.

5/9
I continue to assert that no local government has enough resources to enforce these mandates if there is enough disobedience. It's a risk, but risks must be taken to reclaim freedom. And that freedom benefits everyone except those who want power over you.

6/9
I will continue to amplify examples of courage because courage is contagious, and we need more of it. These petty bureaucrats and public health officials are focused only on declaring themselves heroes, and they don't care how much damage they do along the way.

7/9
They don't care about kids who are losing 1-2 years of school (do we really think underprivileged kids will stay in school until they're 20 to make up for that, or will they drop out as soon as they can?).

They don't care about your business.

8/9
They don't care about your mother with dementia who has been getting worse all year because she has lost the structure that kept her tethered to reality.

They don't care about you. They only care about being heroes of the pandemic. Stop listening to them.

Today @GovRonDeSantis was finally asked a question about local mandates, and his answer was incredibly disappointing.

At 23:50 here, transcript below: facebook.com/watch/?v=17769…

Q: "You've said on many occasions that you won't let any local government kick anybody out of their job or shut a business down. Yet here in Miami-Dade County, I'm a talk show host, and I hear from business owners and workers... saying because [we still have] a curfew,...

2/7
"they're getting kicked out of their jobs... after midnight. Why is that still being allowed to happen?"

A: "One, I'm not saying I agree with curfews... but at the same time, what I had to do was prevent anybody from closing a business or shutting an individual down,
