Holy smokes! Beijing, China 🇨🇳 just hit +25.6°C today.

This is a full +5.8° hotter than the record from 1996 and about +20°C warmer than normal for this time of year!

North and South Korea also recorded their hottest February day ever.

This winter heatwave is truly immense.
This is how the temperature compares to normal.

🔴 = warmer than normal
🔵 = colder than normal

Absolutely insane and unheard of to achieve this warmth in February.
A fantastic breakdown of the stats today by @EKMeteo

And more mind-numbing stats from @extremetemps

Look at the word choice here, this is not even down-playing what has just happened.

"This 25C+ is 25 days early of the previous earliest 25C (18 March 2009)."

It has also been remarkably warm in Europe.

But Asia has knocked the winter heat out of the park in comparison.
It is a hemisphere of extremes, the cold in North America is still strong and the Russia brutal cold hangs on (very widespread too).

Arctic is seeing some exceptional warmth move in from the Atlantic.
*Correction. Pyongyang recorded its hottest February day ever but this is not the hottest day nationally for North Korea.

Thanks @extremetemps

Orkney, Shetland and little Fair Isle, gorgeous.

Completely covered in snow.
The detail of the rugged Highlands and Islands is beautifully captured in the west.

Skiing in the sand... I mean snow.

Truly remarkable scenes emerging from parts of Europe as thick layer of Saharan dust blankets ski resorts today.
