Everyone talks about online business like it is the holy grail of making money
I have yet to see someone break down the bad sides of online biz
So, that is what we are going to do today
1) You May Not See Good Money (for a WHILE)
There is one common theme I've noticed between successful online biz owners
Nearly all of them tried 5-10 different business models before committing to one
Then, it took them 6 months to a year to start getting a decent "paycheck"
You can cut this time in half by being smart about it, for example:
- Copying what is already working
- Adding your own unique spin
- Not quitting after a month
BUT, copying what someone else is doing may not work.
Especially if the person you are copying went through a crazy amount of trial and error to make it work
Main lesson: you need to be persistent and continuously learning
2) You Will Get Better With Time
It is nearly impossible to lock down EVERYTHING when you first start your business
- Perfect offer
- Perfect outreach
- Perfect social posts
- Perfect video content
- Perfect ads, funnel, copy etc
Not gonna happen, and you need to be okay with that
Online business is about iteration
The longer you are in the game and consistently making things better, the more "AHA" moments you will have and the more money you will make
3) Self-Management Is Crucial
This is a Pillar of Psychological Performance that I learned from @psypreneur
At a job, you are managed. You are told exactly what to do and you understand what you should be doing at a specific time
In online business, ALL of this is up to you
You NEED to have structure or else your focus will be spread all over the place
This is exactly how you make zero progress
So, plan your days, plan your weeks, and plan your months
Be tedious with what you should be doing on a daily basis
Spending 30 minutes planning this out will save you hours throughout the week
(If you want a guided way to planning this out, click the link in my bio.)
"Focused work for 3-4 hours a day" will only change your life if you are working on tasks that move the needle
4) You Need To Learn Before Executing
I see way too many people that watch one YouTube video on graphic design and think they are ready to land $5k retainer clients
Doesn't work like that homie
If you can spend 4 years going to college to learn something that you'll never use again, you can spend 6 months mastering a craft that will pay you well
You don't HAVE to spend 6 months learning before you start trying to get clients
But, you do have to be able to deliver good results to the client
You can't do that after watching 1 YouTube vid, sorry
5) The Quickest Paying Biz's are Usually The Least Rewarding
Tell me if I'm wrong, but you want to start an online business to escape the draining 9-5 life
Now, if you start an agency to accomplish this in 3ish months - you're going to be surprised with the work
I don't think ANYONE is passionate about running Facebook Ads for a car dealership
+ if you aren't willing to put in the time to get more and more clients + scale and outsource
You are going to find yourself working another 9-5
The upside: you will have more freedom (and hopefully more money) to pursue projects that you actually want to work on
6) The Most Rewarding Biz's are Usually The Lowest Paying (At First)
Lets say you want to start a fitness coaching biz
Unless you have a GOD TIER physique that can blow up on Instagram
It's going to take some time to build up an audience, prove your expertise, get clients results, and get consistent clients
If you are in a position to spend time and effort on this without worrying about money - great!
If you need quick cash and have always dreamed about starting a self-improvement YouTube channel - it's going to take some time.
There are obviously caveats to this... but as the saying goes, all good things take time (or something like that)
None of this is a bad thing
7) You Shouldn't Do It Alone
Look, I'm all about self-reliance and personal responsibility (it's in my bio lol)
But you will get the most results by learning from people that are a few steps ahead of you
This means:
- Hire a coach if you have the means
- Join communities doing what you want to do
- Buy GOOD courses from people doing what you want to do
- Find people on the same path as you online and make friends with them
This alone will accelerate your progress like mad
That is all for this thread
