Second 🧵👇on why 🇦🇿 #Azerbaijan is tохiс, dangerous, dеstrսсtivе, хепорновiк & why you should never set foot there, but should boycotted & condemn! 👇👇👇 #BoycottAzerbaijan
2/ In #Baku petty crime has given way to more violent attacks that also involve travelers. Attacks are more likely to happen at night in a "jumping" type of an approach involving a group of men... #BoycottAzerbaijan
3/ The bar scam: Men report being attacked at expat & tourist bars, where a woman approaches them & asks for a drink & leaves the man with a very high bar tab. If he doesn't pay, a group of men demand that he pays up by using the threat of physical force. #BoycottAzerbaijan
4/ Other scams involve children or elderly approaching & asking for $$. There are also groups of gypsies that hang out in various areas, beg for money or pickpocket you. Street vendors & cab drivers will try to cheat you. ATM fraud can happen #BoycottAzerbaijan #HungryAzeri
5/ Travelers tell tales of chaos & mayhem while getting around #Azerbaijan & about poor road conditions & crazy drivers, pedestrians are ignored. Roads have large open manholes, lots of trash, potholes & even sinkholes that are a danger to drivers & pedestrians #BoycottAzerbaijan
6/ Crumbling sidewalks, pole stubs & missing covers for manholes pose real danger. Drivers ignore traffic rules & signals, lane divisions, other motorists & pedestrians. They speed & many serious accidents occur. Urban roadways are bad, rural streets are even more dangerous.
7/ #Police in #Azerbaijan are corrupt & dangerous. You will be subject to random checks in popular tourist locales. You can be fined or apprehended for not having documents on you. Taking photos of buildings, might land you in prison, 2 foreign bloggers were imprisoned for this.
8/ A famous #Jewish blogger Lapshin was pressed out from Belarus by Aliyev for his unfavorable coverage of #Azerbaijan. If you have even uttered a single negative word about that xenophobic country or its hereditary dictator, you are subject to imprisonment #BoycottAzerbaijan
9/ Cultural backwardness is a thing. It's not accptble for men to wear shorts. During Ramadan visitors should practice religious awareness. Homosexual gestures, acts or display of affection by people of any orientation are not tolerated. Smiling, trying to engage people is not OK
10/ Talking about politics will get you in trouble throughout #Azerbaijan. If you make disparaging remarks about hereditary dictator Ilham Aliyev or his father Haydar, you will be jailed or deported. This is evidenced by two men who were put in prison for 4 years in late 2009.
11/ Other off-limit topics are Armenia & Artsakh (Karabakh). #Armenophobia is a state religion. If you are of Armenian descent, you will have trouble entering the country. Practically anyone with last name ending with typical Armenian "ian" in persona non-grata in #Azerbaijan
12/ Medical care is an issue. Medical facilities aren't up to scratch throughout the country, sanitary situation is disturbing. Outside Baku there are many unsafe & poorly-maintained facilities. Sometimes, none exist at all. #BoycottAzerbaijan #HungryAzeri
13/ There are many rural villages with issues with limited electricity, infrastructure & other elements that travelers might not expect. Vaccinations & disposable needles are not always available in all medical facilities. Gas, water & electricity are often hard to come by...
14/ Many illnesses are common in #Azerbaijan including malaria in rural areas. Between May-October there is a high risk of contracting the mosquito-borne disease. Tick-borne encephalitis can occur in summer months as well. Others are tuberculosis, H5N1 strain of avian or bird flu
15/ Might come across contaminated local alcohol in bars, restaurants & in stores. There are also a few environmental concerns to be aware of in #Azerbaijan. Dangerous DDT was used on soil in the area, air & water pollution is high thanks to fuel & petrochemical companies.
16/ Thieves might pretend to be police officers & target tourists & foreign residents for $. Fake tickets can be issued on roadways by people who may or may not be actual police officers. Those who stay in a rented apartment may hear a few knocks at the door... #BoycottAzerbaijan
17/ ... this could be the police checking up on you – this can occur if you're overheard talking about Armenia, a topic of major contention – but it could be a thief or other criminal. Authorities are legally permitted to check your apartment or documents... #BoycottAzerbaijan

Here is why you should #BoycottAzerbaijan a гаdioaстivе хепоfовiк country run by a hereditary dictator where any act of dissent is crushed, reporters/activists jailed beaten or Кi11ed, intolerant for LGBTI, minorities & Armenians, a very dangerous place for travel or investment👇
2/ If you are among a very marginal/weird group that is planning travels to or investing in this extremely defective & risk-prone place, here is what US official sources say about it
-> #Azerbaijan - Level 3: Reconsider Travel --> Major Terrorism & COVID risks
3/ #Terrorism: “US Embassy in Baku has received credible reports of potential terrorist attacks & kidnappings against US citizens and foreign nationals in Baku” the diplomatic mission said on its website in a message shared by the State Department on Twitter - The Times of Israel
