One of the empire's most trusted propaganda weapons, the Washington Post, is back at it. Regime change propaganda now has a shiny environmental cover. And "world must act" is code for "military intervention to return decadent elites to power"

The piece has too many falsehoods and distortions to pick apart one by one. The fall in oil revenues is presented as a deliberate Maduro effort, and sanctions are later mentioned as "having not been effective in bringing about a peaceful democratic transition in Venezuela"

There's talk of rising malaria cases w/o mentioning how the US blockade has stopped/delayed vaccine purchases. The authors rail against obscure trade channels but don't find it relevant to tell readers that Venezuela's state mining company was sanctioned

Finally, a couple of words about co-author Cristina Vollmer Burelli. Her bio says "social entrepreneur", which really means "rich heiress". If you wanted to draw a caricature of a Venezuelan socialite this is more or less what you'd come up with

The WaPo's environmentally concerned author happens to be part of the oligarchic Vollmer family dating back to the early independence days. The Vollmer group has its fingers in pies from banking to agroindustry. And who has more concern for the environment than the filthy rich?

To top it all off, Cristina Vollmer is married to Pedro Burelli, former oil executive in the good ol' days where US corporations had a blast. Now his main occupation is going on TV and calling for a military invasion. A proper democracy champion in Washington circles

True to his colors, Burelli was previously implicated in a military coup attempt (see links) and is fleeing an arrest warrant in the US. Surely he and his wife are only concerned about the environment! #HandsOffVenezuela
