400+1 has distributed over 300 meals, redistributed reparations to 115 families, and housed 14 people. We directed traffic where lights failed to function and delivered water where The City had none to offer.
Each time we showed up, each time we offered support, we communicated to those receiving the help that this was not charity. That, in fact, this was an opportunity for them to recognize the failure of both capitalism and the state and to reject them.
Each time we gave something away, we asked for something in return: investment in revolutionary struggle.
Today, 400+1 transitioned folx from emergency housing to temporary housing. We booked motel rooms for nine people for the next two weeks, disbursed $200 in additional reparations funding to each of those folx, and distributed the last of our hot meals to them.
We explained that long term support is available for those interested in joining the vanguard.
If they join, they’ll have access to free housing, subsidized meals, a monthly basic income, and in depth training that prepares them to accept a role in revolutionary struggle.
Long term support is also available to those willing to reside in Orisha Land at Rosewood, rejecting capitalism and state control and engaging in protected struggle to maintain a Black, intentional living community in the heart of gentrified East Austin.
While love and community are the soul of 400+1, theory and praxis are the heart of it. Our theory is that mass divestment from institutions of white supremacy and harm most often follows instances of destabilization that force the masses to seek alternatives.
Our praxis is one in which we highlight, exacerbate or recreate those conditions while simultaneously demonstrating the merit of divestment, socialism, and Black nationalism.
We are not simply building community. We are building an army. We are building the vanguard.

Jordan Walton was murdered by APD on February 10th. Before Jordan’s murder, his family contacted law enforcement and the mental health crisis hotline to make them aware that Jordan was experiencing a bipolar episode, that he was schizophrenic & that they were concerned for him.
During the alleged standoff between APD and Jordan, Austin Police Department spoke to Jordan’s mother extensively. She shared *again* that Jordan was experiencing a mental health crisis.
