Each one of the 180 countries has been given a score of one to 100 – with 100 being the most stringent.

The score takes into account workplace and school closures, restrictions on public gatherings, international travel controls and stay-at-home requirements, among others
Britons have experienced the most stringent lockdown life compared to others in the West, with a daily score of 86.11.

The UK’s approach has been so strict that only two other countries recorded a higher score – Venezuela, (88) and Lebanon (87)
The most recent schools closure announced by Boris Johnson in January is a key factor to the UK’s high score, according to @thomasnhale, lead researcher on the Covid Tracker project.

"Most of Europe have tried to keep schools open," he said
Following a wave of tightened restrictions in the run-up to Christmas, much of Europe has entered a holding pattern.

Having not enforced rules as tough as Britain’s in the new year, most European nations have found themselves unable to loosen them and many remain under curfews
The UK has also among the highest number of deaths per million of its population.
