I'm listening to the new season of Embedded and it's breaking my heart. It's about the shooting at The Capital Gazette newspaper.

I remember when that happened. I was a newspaper reporter in Utah.

That day I talked to my mom. She wanted to know what was happening at the newspaper in Annapolis.

I sent her news articles. Eventually I went home, after filing a few stories. And then I cried. I thought: shit, there's people who will kill us for doing our job.
It was my first job out of college, so everything felt more personal, and a lot.

That evening, one of my colleagues at @standardex posted on Facebook this. It was scary to know that we could also be a target on that same day. Luckily, nothing happened to us.
Anyway, listen to this episode of Embedded. It's powerful. Sad. Heartbreaking. All of those.

And know that journalists are not your enemy. npr.org/2021/02/17/968…
