The previously scheduled Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing to vote on Neera Tanden's nomination to be OMB Director has been postponed, a possible indication that her nomination may be being pulled, @kristin__wilson and @tedbarrettcnn report.
2/ Reports @ryanobles: The committee is specifically concerned with how @SenatorSinema will vote and did not want to risk taking the vote on Tanden without knowing how she planned to vote, a person familiar with internal committee deliberations tells CNN.
3/ If Sinema, who sits on the committee, is opposed to the nomination then it is essentially dead. If she’s a yes, then the focus shifts to Murkowski when it comes to floor, Nobles adds.
4/ One GOP Senator told me that Tanden’s “excessive partisanship seemed likely to continue given that she placed her close friend Topher Spiro in a non-confirmable slot at OMB....That made it seem like she was setting up OMB to be a political operation....
5/ “... Topher has an impressive resume and may be a talented policy person. But he was a troll, so her apologies ring hollow.”
6/ WH didn’t respond when I asked for comment but here’s @PressSec Psaki this morning:
A senior aide on the Senate Budget Committee tells CNN’s @ryanobles that today’s hearing that was scheduled to take up the Neera Tanden nomination has been postponed. Chairman @BernieSanders personally informed Tanden on the phone about postponement.
On the one-year anniversary of Ahmaud Arbery's death, his mother has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging a broad conspiracy by law enforcement and the three suspects in a blatant cover up to prevent their arrest.
2/ The lawsuit filed in the Southern District of Georgia is seeking damages in excess of a million dollars. Cooper-Jones alleges that "for nearly three months, Glynn County Police Officers, the chief of police, and two prosecutors conspired to hide the circumstances...
3/ “... surrounding Ahmaud's death and to protect the men that murdered him. And none of this would've been discovered but for video footage leaked to the media, which showed the horrific and brutal murder of Ahmaud".
2/ The 5th told me it's possible others were offended since they had experienced the assault and didn't need to be reminded of how horrible it was, though this senator was not offended...
3/ The 6th addressed the other part of Graham's criticism from Hannity: "The legal theory they have is absurd – that somehow that Trump’s a secret member of the Proud Boys." ...
Biden WH now backtracking from original pledge to have most schools open within 100 days.
(thread)
2/ In December, Biden said “If Congress provides the funding... if states and cities put strong public health measures in place that we all follow, then my team will work to see that a majority of our schools can be open by the end of my first 100 days."
3/ Yesterday, @PressSec Psaki said the goal is now "to have the majority of schools — so, more than 50% — open by day 100 of his presidency. And that means some teaching in classrooms. So, at least one day a week. Hopefully, it’s more."
