Luis Almagro, secretario general de la Organización de los Estados Americanos; Diego Arria, exembajador de Venezuela ante la ONU y María Corina Machado, coordinadora nacional del partido opositor Vente Venezuela, fueron algunos de los que hicieron el llamado.
“Es una burla a las víctimas, es una burla a aquellos que han sido torturados, es una burla a los parientes de aquellos que han sido ejecutados extrajudicialmente que el régimen se siente en el Consejo de Derechos Humanos”, dijo Almagro en una conferencia organizada por UN Watch.
Venezuela logró los votos suficientes en la Asamblea General de la ONU en octubre de 2019 para acceder al Consejo de Derechos Humanos de Naciones Unidas para el periodo 2020-2022.
Su ingreso ha sido criticado por opositores de Maduro desde entonces, quienes alegan que el gobierno del país latinoamericano lleva a cabo continuas violaciones a los derechos humanos.
Maduro habló el lunes ante el Consejo y denunció la “agresión económica” que países opositores a su gobierno llevan a cabo a través de sanciones, afectando al pueblo venezolano, dijo.
@Diego_Arria, ahora encargado de una campaña para expulsar al gobierno de Maduro del Consejo de Derechos Humanos, pidió que se firme una petición por internet que ya cuenta con más de 180.000 firmas para pedir a la Asamblea General de la ONU que retire a Venezuela del organismo.
La tarea no es fácil, dijo, pero Libia, por ejemplo, fue expulsada del Consejo en 2011, señaló.
La campaña de firmas por internet ha sido organizada por UN Watch.
