NMF asked ODOT repeatedly over last few months about the freeway width. ODOT lied, and repeatedly said if we wanted to know more, we'd need to do a FOIA.
Unbeknownst to them, we already did a FOIA, and knew they were lying:
@OregonDOT First document is from 2017; 2nd is from 2019. It took *months* of FOIA efforts to get our hands on these very basic documents showing what @oregondot intends to build in the Albina neighborhood.
It shouldn't take months of legal posturing to find out what ODOT intends to build
OTC directed ODOT staff to meet with Joe, who asked point blank about the width.
ODOT's response, a month later?
"uhhh look at the EA. that's the width. file a FOIA if you wanna know more."
Anyone who cares about the right to breathe clean air or live on a hospitable planet should be concerned about @oregondot's continued hostility to public requests for more information about the air pollution or carbon emissions this proposed freeway expansion entails.
It's Orwellian - and borderline Trumpian - of @OregonDOT to claim they care about restorative justice for Albina while trying to hide from the public the details that determine how much asthma, and heart disease their freeway's air pollution will give future Albina residents.
@OregonDOT ODOT hid from public the massive cost overruns.
ODOT hid the impacts to eastbank esplanade.
ODOT's OTC scheduled a big RQ vote 90 MILES away from Portland, on one week's notice.
ODOT deliberately manipulated the RQ traffic projections
How many times does @oregondot have to get caught lying about or hiding the details of this proposed freeway expansion before @OregonGovBrown + our legislators demand accountability from this agency? ODOT will clearly say anything to get the green light to build more lanes
@OregonDOT@OregonGovBrown We hope legislators/elected officials will use their authority to demand a full Environmental Impact Statement. It's the only mechanism available to prevent @oregondot from repeating past racist injustices and ramming these lanes into the backyard of Harriet Tubman Middle School.
We're an all-volunteer, grassroots effort. We've been powered by an awesome combination of volunteers - kudos to @alankesslr@maccoinnich@DrTaraGoddard in particular for helping with these FOIA requests. Without these public records, we couldn't prove ODOT was lying.
Eager to help us defeat @OregonDOT and the Rose Quarter Freeway Expansion?
An anonymous donor is matching up to $2000 in donations through the end of the month. Donate any amount to our grassroots campaign and we'll mail you a button!
one last link for the night crowd: @Joe_Cortright at @CityObs explains in depth the implications of the 160 foot right of way for the freeway expansion.
We've raised over $500 just in the last five hours - can you help us reach $2000 by the end of the weekend?
Thanks to the dozens of you who donated, shared our latest news, written your legislators, and otherwise reached out in the last week. We have so much more planned in the next few weeks; stay tuned!
The real auxiliary lanes are the friends we make along the way 🖤🚫🛣 #noi5rqx
We won’t rest until ODOT listens to the demands we’ve been making for years:
✅Conduct a full Environmental Impact Statement for the Rose Quarter Freeway Expansion
✅Study and implement congestion pricing before expansion
✅ Restorative justice for the Albina neighborhood
