So I've read the full text of this excerpt I've seen directed at a voice actor multiple times, stating that she is posting misinformation in saying virtual child pornography is illegal. The text is a summary of an appeal by the 9th Circuit of the Supreme Court, which (1/?
successfully overturned some aspects of the CPPA (Child Pornography Protection Act) in April 2002. The Appeal contended that the CPPA is unconstitutional because its terminology was vague enough to cause a freedom of speech violation.
Three judges participated in this Appeal
Justice O'Connor, Justice Thomas, and most notably, Justice Scalia... the infamous Antonin Scalia himself, a well-known conservative advocate in the Supreme Court. Here's an article NPR wrote up about him... npr.org/2016/02/13/140…
it's fascinating to me how music boxes invoke that nostalgic and/or haunting atmosphere... perhaps it's because they contain songs that can be played at will, and often old songs from movies, nursery rhymes, etc. they are a perfectly preserved memory in themselves. i love that
nostalgia is something i always come back to in writing as a core theme. i like the sense of longing for something you've lost, or something you've never known but are inexplicably drawn to. like a waking dream, you imagine yourself in that place again
citypop music does this, too. ive never been to any of the places where it was made and popularized in the 80s, yet the Feeling of the space contained within the music makes me feel like somehow, once upon a time, i was in that place. a city crystallized in the notes
this whole ffxiv rp situation is so much... good good
im just crossposting what i said in da thread and a reply i saw as useful
tldr i think everybody can have their cake and eat it too, while also respecting the comfort of othwers in a shared game environment. PF >>>> Shout
i would much rather have the Other section (which is already relegated to a corner of the PF) used for advertising RP clubs and services than have this GM's suggestion of spamming shout chat :') it's Already bad enough in Limsa as is
unfortunately everybody started arguing about how much they hate roleplayers or not instead of the core issue, which is that a GM is making decisions not justified by the ToS
if squeenix wants to update policy, they shouldn't do it without a clear announcement. that's the issue
finished 13 Sentinels earlier tonight. i don't have too much to say, but here's some
1. the prologue is the worst part of the game. if you can stomach the unfortunate anime balloon tiddies, naked girl in robot, and transphobic framing of an nb character, it gets better
2. the game is visually, mechanically, and musically stunning. it's gorgeous and well-made. if you want visual appeal and fun ludonarrative integration using technology as the conceptual axis, this is a winner. a la Nier Automata in nature
3. if you enjoy high concept science fiction, you will enjoy this game. it has a similar effect to games like VLR in that its initially narrow scope begins to gradually Expand into something greater than you could ever have known. very cool. that said,
thinking more about the lgbt rep in 13 Sentinels now that i'm 80% through the story
while i was bracing for the worst after hijiyama's prologue, the more i realize that the initially uncomfortable framing of the nonbinary character's transness is intentional--
--in that it's meant to draw in players who might be dated and prejudiced in their thinking, like a certain someone who grew up in 1940s japan. i won't say more as not to spoil pieces of the game, but the way hijiyama reacts to and ultimately comes to love this character
is really touching. the character also states outright two things that really felt sincere to me
- "some binaries work for me, and others don't" (a cute programmer joke and also a direct I Am Nonbinary)
- "you had a crush on me before, so why does it matter now?" (paraphrased)
i cant lie. im going to be really bummed when shb is over and the first is no longer relevant/narratively reachable... they did such a good job with it that i like it there way more than the source, and idk how theyre gonna fix that. so much of it looks drab and janky bc old
i think whats disappointing is that. this game is so ugga lee bc the style they go for is only pretty in HD 4K See Every Hair On Character Nipple Graphics. but that is not accessible in a way that an mmo needs to be for ppl to play it, so they had to dial it back
this is part of my larger gripe abt games as a whole spending too much on textures and too little on having a unique style that will not age like Milk and looks more interesting... ff goes for semi-realism, which falls into that trap. the only kind of graphical realism i like--
