#TransRightsAreHumanRights is a global issue. Locally, we still have much to do to ensure our trans siblings are safe + protected in everyday life both in the physical world & online. @BSmithMB@UAsagwara I live & work in your constituencies & I'm asking for your help...
Months ago @energy106fm hired a known bigot & in doing so launched a new wave of anti-Trans hate in MB. By refusing to tell their hate filled fans to stand down/ apologize, they’ve platformed violence that has echoed via bullying and threats. Now they’re unacceptably silent
@TwitterSafety is refusing to help. Turns out @wpgpolice won’t do anything, either. We need to push law enforcement to protect human rights. Better yet, we need to fund an agency that cares about human rights, recognizes the impacts of online threats & protects all vulnerable ppl
Everyone else: We need to remember this is not a Wheeler issue; he’s merely a symptom of a larger social problem. Hate, left unchecked, spreads bc it’s an easy way for small & insecure minds to grapple w personal disappointments in their own existence.
We need to stand up each day to end aggression against ppl who are trying to live their lives in peace. Yes, bullies need access to help to resolve their violent tendencies. Protection for those at risk still needs to come first.
