This week's Q&A session with @NCanagarajah and the executive board of @uniofleicester was another cheerless event. A thread with a few reflections. (1/7)
1. The public reactions are framed as a PR problem: The public outcry is no problem at all. This was expected and is dealt with. No reflection about or dealing with the arguments of the protest letters etc. at all. (2/7)
2. Monitoring staff at social media channels? That’s not true. We are just tracking their activities and people report critical stuff to us. I confess this makes me shiver. (3/7)
3. Return of honorary degree? That’s a pity but so many other people have received an honorary degree from us. Resignation of external examiners? Well, we have procedures in place to replace them. Nothing to see here. (4/7)
4. Publication of a strategy? Was delayed due to the pandemic. Well, the eight cases for change to make 145 employees 'at risk' of redundancy were delivered in time. (5/7)
5. The change process? Let’s burn down the house as quickly as possible. Then forget about the damage done and build a new house which will look much brighter than the old one. Trust us! (6/7)
I am not sure how this new house will look like, because we have not yet seen a strategy at all. But you should ask yourself if you want to live in such a house. #NoOneIsRedundant#ULSB16#IAmIndignant@leicesterucu ((7/7)
