my neighbor just sits in his car with the door open blasting pop country on the radio while smoking cigarettes and aside from being annoying im like, bro if youre gonna do that you can step the music game up. im about to make a mix CD for a fifty year old man
if youre gonna get wasted and sit in your car in the middle of the day you can at least pretend its aesthetic with the right jams but the pop country is not the right maneuver here
this is the same guy who tried to buy my rocking chair so i let him have it. when he first moved in my wife brought cookies over. unsurprisingly we did not get the tupperware back. women care about that apparently, its like the equivalent of fishing gear to them or something.
i think he wanted the rocking chair because he had a gf, but now i havent seen the gf for months and the rocking chair is between our houses. its not back at my house, nor is it “at his house”, its hovering in a liminal state. these are the terrestrial mysteries i contemplate
unfortunately although i like the guy i have to rank him third in the neighbor rankings, after “literally boomhauers mom from king of the hill”, and “guy whose name was rat who took me mushroom hunting”, who died (RIP)
highlight of interacting with boomhauers mom was when she asked me something one time, and i couldnt understand her, so i said “yeah im not sure”, and then it turns out she was asking me if i was married so i think after that she made certain assumptions about my intelligence.

great example of the classic socially enforced double bind, wherein if you dont want to do X youre insane / evil but if you eagerly do X your motives are questioned. its structured so that no matter which path you choose, ultimately lateral policing of behavior comes out on top
101 but “the spectacle” can be modeled as a biological organism that spontaneously generates these types of things to ensure that its always reinforced. another great one is that not caring about countries is bad but caring too much gives you a neocolonial ”savior” complex
yesterday a friend was telling me about their boss who does all this charity work for + in africa and used the term “white savior”, but then when i pressed her on if it would be better to not care about that she completely flipped, because its not about the actual position.
after years of contrary experience and an impossible to quantify amount of evidence deep down its still difficult for me to believe that most people lack the ability to reflect on what theyre saying and thinking and to check if it makes sense.
i dont really talk to people in real life about any "political" topics anymore, but sometimes my wife does, or, to say it more accurately, sometimes ill hear people bring it up to her. yesterday she was on the phone with this guy that i know is ostensibly intelligent. [...]
and he says, yeah, [this person or group] is just crazy evil, they're horrible and evil + bad. and she asks, innocently, with no real point to make, what do you mean, what evil thing have they done? and he gives the same kind of spiel, and shes like, can u name something specific
yes: i have something i am very pleased to finally show you. its been incubating for a while, but it is ready. it requires a little explanation so step into my thread. here are some preview images to entice. all these images are available as prints here:
soviet propaganda is notorious in the history of art for a variety of reasons. theres a subset of these images that focus on religion, specifically on being anti-religion. perhaps you have seen some things like this before. for example, this one says, "i see no god"
i was going over these while doing some research and it occurred to me that most of them operate on what i would call a visual rhetorical device. theyre quite well done and straightforward. for this reason, i thought it would be easy to flip their message + make them pro-religion
“i dont think we need 80 pounds of rice. we dont even eat rice”
smdh i am just trying to pr0tect. let me guard our cave
women make the home beautiful, lovely, human, men store away an industrial amount of staples in case society collapses. theres a complementary relationship here. i dont know why we need all these decorative blankets, u dont know why we need 45 lbs of frozen fish. its a ying yang
rare new esoteric americana congealing and forming in real time as the “appalachian league” announces new local egregores. i am watching, observing, taking note.
