great example of the classic socially enforced double bind, wherein if you dont want to do X youre insane / evil but if you eagerly do X your motives are questioned. its structured so that no matter which path you choose, ultimately lateral policing of behavior comes out on top

yesterday a friend was telling me about their boss who does all this charity work for + in africa and used the term “white savior”, but then when i pressed her on if it would be better to not care about that she completely flipped, because its not about the actual position.
of course theres obviously a way to critique such things that is rooted in a cohesive + coherent worldview with actual reasons, but most normal people dont have that. its not “the person” that ur talking to but a larger creature, made of behavior, a paradigm, that acts thru them
