Solar system calculation (engineers dan bijak pandai sila tolong dan betulkan saya ya)
Aim off-grid solar system is to power my 2 water-pump for my NFT Hydroponic system.
Both pumps are 230VAC with combined 100W rating running 24/7
Here a thread & calculation
1) Electrical Load per day
100W x 24H = 2,400W/day
2) Battery capacity
If a batt discharged after 100% charge, we require at most 50% or even less if using lead-acid batt
VAC to VDC conversion : 2,400W divide by 12V system = 200Ah (24V system = 100Ah)
Taking into account to cover nighttime use & daytime charging while using, we need at least battery double the size of electrical load
Electric load 200Ah (double load = 400Ah battery)
3) Solar panel
Solar panel need to be able to charge 50% of the batt capacity in daytime
Thus we need to charge 200Ah in about 8-10hrs. Say we take 10hrs charging time
Panel has between 5.5-10Ah output depending on size and type
(12V system) 200Ah divide by 10hours= we need solar panel that can produce 20Ah output which is unavailable in the market
So we need to use a Two higher grade 10Ah solar panel arranged in parallel to have Ampere addition rather than Volts
For 24V system, 2 solar panels in series, we require 100Ah to be charged in 10Hours,we need 2 solar panel each produce 10Ah solar panels but arranged in series
Costing 1) 400Ah battery will cost around rm1.5k (need 4bijik 100Ah batt) 2) panel will be rm800 3) inverter = rm300 4) solar controller charger = rm200
Thus total cost will be close to rm3k
Not including replacing battery every few years
Cost of rm3k, to save myself from paying around rm5-15 electrical bill per month for the pumps
If we take rm15 per month bill, i will break even at 200month ~ 16yrs which i think quite illogical
Perhaps im wrongly assuming my system and maybe too much overestimating my solar system that i require
Using renewable energy is commendable but if its cost too much maybe its not worth it😅😅
