@Mattie258 @PramilaJayapal Well over 90% of US forces were conscripted. On a population ratio, the Nazis got more Ukrainian volunteers than Americans got from their own population.

I'm sure they liked america, but the great bulk of soldiers went to war because the state told them to.

@Mattie258 @PramilaJayapal As for the red tails, they were guys who wanted to be fighter pilots. Whether they had some great love for america is impossible to know. They were probably more fond of it than the average black person at the time.

1. It makes you seem better
2. The atrocities uncovered after the war
3. The whole war propaganda and fervor over the course of the war

@Mattie258 @PramilaJayapal Take something today like "it was worth is because the holocaust". Okay, well 6 million were killed (give or take), and there were ~9 million in Nazi territories. Lets say without US involvement the Nazis would have won. So they prolonged the war by about 2 years to save...

@Mattie258 @PramilaJayapal 3 million Jews. Granted I wouldn't be here if not for that war, but more people died during the war than if the US didn't intervene. An Axis victory is a shorter war.

Now, what comes next? Well, for most non-Jews, life was pretty normal under Nazi rule.

@Mattie258 @PramilaJayapal Aside from the demands of war production. Hitler's peace proposals to Stalin left out most of ethnic Russia. Most of the people's who would be in Hitler's Empire were from ethnicities that volunteered for the SS at a higher rate than US citizens did for their own country.

@Mattie258 @PramilaJayapal The only other argument would really be about the "General Plan of the East", which was not something formally established or even signed off by Hitler. Based on volunteer rates of that region, the Nazis couldn't have been too awful to Ukrainians or Turkic peoples.
