Here's the tax stuff....@RishiSunak: "Just as it would be irresponsible to withdraw support too soon, it would also be irresponsible to allow our future borrowing and debt to rise unchecked. When crises come, we need to be able to act. And we need the fiscal freedom to act."
As expected, no detail on taxes "This Budget is not the time to set detailed fiscal rules, with precise targets and dates to achieve them by – I don’t believe that would be sensible."
Yep, he's freezing personal tax thresholds.
"This policy does remove the incremental benefit created had thresholds continued to increase with inflation. We are not hiding it, I am here, explaining it to the House and it is in the Budget document in black and white."
You know a Chancellor has bad news when he rattles through things quickly. Freeze at current levels, until April 2026: inheritance tax thresholds…pensions lifetime allowance… annual exempt amount in capital gains tax And, for 2ys from April 2022, the VAT registration threshold
And the big news on corporation tax:
in 2023, the rate of corporation tax, paid on company profits, will increase to 25%.
Cos it's in 2 yrs time, @Keir_Starmer can accept that corporation tax and say it fits with his pledge to oppose tax rises 'right now'.
The freezing of personal allowances kicks in next year, so that's not 'right now' either.

BREAKING: In High Court case of Oldknow v Evans, Mrs Justice Tipples has dismissed an application for a court order that would identify alleged leakers of Labour's internal anti-Semitism report.
Judge said that there was a real risk of innocent individuals being named and the case smacked of a legal 'fishing' expedition
Mrs Justice Tipples also said that she took into account the fact that there were two separate investigations into the leak: by the ICO and by Martin Forde QC.
Here is the Q&A between the Lobby + the PM’s spokesman on
1 @MattHancock saying Brexit was the reason the UK was the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer vaccine.
2 @AlokSharma_RDG saying today was 'the day the UK led humanity’s charge' against Covid
Read n weep:
Q “There’s lots of interest in Matt Hancock’s claim that it was sort of ‘Brexit wot won it’ for us. Is that the PM’s view as well, we are first because of Brexit?”
A “I think the important point is that we are the first country in the world to approve this vaccine + that’s thanks to the hard work of the MHRA + obviously special thanks needs to go to those who took part in these trials and who have worked tirelessly in producing the vaccine
.@BorisJohnson again suggesting Liverpool mass testing ("together with the effect of national restrictions") is among reasons that its cases have fallen.
But many MPs say the lag on mass testing means too early to assess its impact.
But the PM clearly thinks "community testing" is a valuable key to unlocking Tier 3 and giving it Tier 2 freedoms.
Here's No.10 on this latest moonshot idea: “We want to work closely with local authorities in Tier 3, that’s why we set out this prospectus. Engagement is underway. We have always been clear of the important role that mass testing can play.”
.@BorisJohnson announces new hospitality sector support
in form of one-off £1,000 grant to 'wet pubs'
Says that pubs, hotels and restaurants have borne "disproportionate" burden of Covid restrictions
Not sure that one grand payment will do enough to help many of those pubs. And nowt for hotels or restaurants, despite their "disproportionate" burdne.
