There is a chapter on Power in The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls in which I expand more on Footsoldiers of the Patriarchy. This essay from 2019 captures many of my points nytimes.com/2019/05/28/opi…
Feminism does not promise to support a woman simply because she is a woman. Is that woman a fellow feminist fighting to destroy patriarchy or is she a Footsoldier of the Patriarchy? feministgiant.com/p/essay-the-ju…
To demand I support a woman simply because she is a woman, with no regard to whether she upholds/works to destroy patriarchy, is to reduce feminism to a Sorority of Pinky Swears - a hollow & toothless mockery of goals of feminism, benefiting only those who benefit from patriarchy
I do not celebrate the appointment of women to high positions in regimes where cruelty is a favored tool of governance by patriarchy; if they accept, they're nothing short of footsoldiers of that patriarchy & the violence it has instituted e.g. Gina Haspel nytimes.com/2018/03/14/opi…
I do not subscribe to a feminism that demands perfection or super heroic nobility of women. But I do insist that putting women at the service of patriarchy is no victory for us.
These are discussions that will come up again and again as women demand inclusion in institutions that haven't been friends to women, e.g. the military, religious institutions, corporations & the C.I.A.
Fuck off. And I am starting something. Fuck right off. I told Ruby that on Instagram when she tried to start something and she blocked me because she knows this is shit. So telling your too to fuck off
If anyone’s wondering what I’m responding to, here’s the deleted tweet
Ruby Hamad tried this shit with me on IG last month, when she said I should amplify the voices of women of colour and accused me of “drowning them out” and “appropriating” their work. And then she blocked me. I have the screenshots. And I’m posting them because this was public.
#Australia: if your defence minister is the only one forced out after your attorney general & a male minister were accused of rape/sexual assault, then it will give more impetus to why I call women like Linda Reynolds Footsoldiers of the Patriarchy h/t @webbysweird
- Having “thick skin” does not mean tolerating sexual assault.
- “Good government” does not require the freedom to sexually assault aides
- Fuck Democrats and fuck Republicans and anyone who defends sexual assault
- Governor of NY: accused of sexual assault
- Attorney General of Australia: accused of rape
- Supreme Court justice in the USA: accused of sexual assault
- Interior Minister of France: accused of sexual assault
- VP of Zimbabwe: accused of sexual misconduct
“The legal system is designed to protect men from the superior power of the state but not to protect women or children from the superior power of men,” U.S. feminist psychiatrist Judith Herman, Trauma and Recovery, The Aftermath of Violence-From Domestic Abuse to Political Terror
After I explained to a club manager why I’d beaten up a man who sexually assaulted me, the manager looked at my Beloved and asked me “Why didn’t you let your husband take care of it?”
Thank you @NewBlackMan for your great talk on ‘Quarantine Soul,’ and for the music you included by Ego Ella May, Dinner Party, Tobe Nwigwe, among others for @nyuniversity Institute of African-American Affairs at NYU
Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert are part of a red wave that made history in the November elections. They are among the record-breaking 17 new female GOP lawmakers who were elected to Congress in November. feministgiant.com/p/a-white-supr…
"In 2020, all 15 of the seats Republicans flipped were won by a woman, a minority or a veteran," Conston writes. "Continuing to recruit similar candidates is a foundational building block to the majority in 2022." h/t @AlterEg14914630axios.com/house-republic…
All but one of the new GOP female lawmakers are white. Many GOP women who flipped blue seats to red are not moderates nor are they interested in “unity” unless it is a unity w/fascism that Trump has unleashed w/their support
