I’ve been doing a lot of media interviews about #IWW2021 and am thinking about the stats I’ve been sharing about the disproportionate negative impact the pandemic has had on women. Thinking about the women who aren’t sleeping, who are juggling child care, parent care and homes.
Thinking about the women who are working extra hours to do their jobs while juggling everything else; the ones who have lost their jobs; the women who are struggling to get recognized at work while they barely recognize themselves anymore from being so exhausted and worried.
Thinking about how VC funding has decreased for women going from an already abysmal 2.8% of all funding to 2.3%. And wondering. Why we keep talking about it and not doing enough to fix it. 50% of our population is needing action not words. Executives need to take action.
Change the dial. Create flexibility at work, better childcare solutions, equal pay initiatives, advancement of women in Corporations, mental health support. Recognition, advancement, funding and financing. Women have been on our front lines in healthcare, retail and in our homes
Women have been teaching, feeding, caring for and supporting others while working without the same pay, opportunity and support. They are expected to do more. With far less. If you manage investing, run a corporation or have authority then it’s in you to help change this story.
As a nation we will not move forward if we don’t unleash the economic and environmental impact that women can and will have when they are given equal opportunity. We aren’t asking for more. We are asking for the same. Quit loading us up and start sharing the load.
