Ok, unprovoked rant about my thoughts on why I think so many people are bothered by zoosexuality, here we go:
I think a lot of people still struggle with the fact that we are not something separate, or greater than other species.
/2
That we are all part of the same family and that we are related to every other living thing on earth.
Humans have been told for thousands of years that they are something special, by science, philosophy and religions. That we were made in "gods image" even.
/3
So it comes as no surprise that they're still struggling with this new reality, that humans are just another kind of animal, and that they still don't want to recognize it.
/4
In the 17th century, the philosopher René Descartes taught that animals, as opposed to humans, do not feel any suffering and are merely biological machines because they lacked a soul. A justification to treat non-humans with impunity. Some people still believe this shit today.
/5
In the middle ages, bestiality was punishable by death in many european countries. For the human AND the non-human alike. They were not seen as victims, but as co-conspirators. The notion was that sex with non-humans degrades the human and humanity as a whole.
/6
But in a society were "ew" isn't a valid argument for denying one the right to live out their sexuality anymore, anti-zoos have to make use of another strategy to undermine us. So now they assume the mantel of social justice, or animals rights.
/7
And they say stuff like "animals can't consent", or "they can't even comprehend sex!" Which is verifiably untrue, but if they say it often and loud enough, maybe the general population will hear it and they can still hold on to that animal/human divide a bit longer.
