The White House wouldn’t support the @VP overruling the advice of the parliamentarian.
@SenSchumer took $15 minimum wage out of COVID relief bill before it was brought to the floor.
8 white Dem senators led by Manchin joined extremist Republicans to block Sanders' amendment.
Millions of poor & low-income white people from Appalachia to rural America are being denied $15 minimum wage.
On the Friday before the 56th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, 45% of Black workers denied $15.
62 million poor & low-income people — who were poor & low-income before the pandemic — got abandoned.
45% of Black poor & low-wage workers are being blocked from earning a $15 minimum wage.
These votes are rooted in a form of systemic racism, classism, and elitism that even Democrats fall into when they're led by so-called centrism & neo-liberalism that passes policies full of disparate impact on Black, brown, indigenous & poor white essential workers.
We can see clearly now how the problems of the nation are not just Trump's actions.
Systemic racism is any policy passed by any party that has a disparate impact on Black, brown & indigenous ppl. Classism is policy that has a disparate impact on poor & low-income communities.
When all 50 Republican senators & 8 (all white) Democrats voted to deny passage of $15/hr min wage — which would have lifted 45% of Black workers out of poor & low-wage jobs, & 62 million people overall — these actions are policy forms of racism & classism & disparate treatment.
I give thanks for the relief that will come through this bill. But we cannot pretend that the people who are suffering the most from inequality are being represented when the policies most essential to their survival are so easily negotiated away. #PoorPeoplesCampaign

As the Poor People’s Campaign continues to pressure the U.S. Senate to include a minimum wage of $15/hour in any COVID relief, Sen. Joe Manchin has requested a meeting with the campaign.
The spirit of Julian Bond, Bob Moses, Diane Nash & John Lewis are speaking to us even today in this impeachment trial. I hear them saying that no matter what happens with this partisan vote, don’t give up your principle & keep fighting for justice no matter what.
The Republicans who chose Trump & his senseless lies & violence must now be impeached and removed by the vote of the people in 2022.
Democrats can see clearly the Republicans are not serious about governing or caring for the people. They must use now their majority to pass what is best for the people.
Let's not forget it was a woman from Harlan County, Kentucky, Florence Patton Reece, who wrote the song "Which Side Are You On?" in the 1930s. When we push for a living wage, we stand on their shoulders.
Come all of you good workers
Good news to you I'll tell
Of how that good old union
Has come in here to dwell
Chorus
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
To President Biden & Democratic senators, Don’t turn back on $15/hr minimum wage in the rescue plan. Turning back now will betray 62 million poor & low-wage workers. And it will be perceived by many as lying to the American people & going back on a campaign promise.
57 years ago at the March on Washington, MLK called for a $2/hr minimum wage. Today that would be $15/hr.
America is already 57 years overdue, and, for Black Americans, it took us 400 years to get from $0 to $7.25/hr. We can’t wait anymore.
Democrats, you saw Trump give trillions to wealthy corporations. We cannot watch you go backwards on living wages for essential workers, low-wage workers, and tip workers, all those who are essential.
This relief bill is more like Herod’s mess than a Christmas miracle. Billionaires have made $1 trillion during the pandemic, but poor & low income ppl can’t get guaranteed health care, just sick leave, adequate unemployment or help for cities—just $600 & a delay in overdue rent.
McConnell & the Republicans act as though they hate the people but love greed & power. There are those who want us to applaud this pitiful response, but the old folks I was raised around used to say you don’t “mess” on the carpet and then get praise for cleaning a little up.
Trump & McConnell’s minions “messed” on America & they want us to applaud them for cleaning a little of it up. No, we can’t do that.
This Christmas, we must be like Rachel who weeped for her children & refused to be consoled because they were no more.
